I live in El Paso TX, and everyday about 10,000 Mexican residents cross the border to work on this side. It's driven the job market to the point where you have to speak Spanish, be Mexican and/or know somebody to get a job. I can't even get a scholarship because they've all been given to Mexican residents! Is it just me, or is this illegal? And if it isn't, should it be?

To clarify: I did not intend to sound racist, and apologize if I offended anyone. We were just stationed here, and I am shocked at the way a lot of us military spouses are discriminated against especially in a city whose economy is supported by an Army base. There's less discrimination on bases in other countries! BTW, the source for my statistics is the Bureau of Transportation. If you're interested in seeing how many people cross the Mexican-US border legally, check out this link.

Your taking this personal because of the scholarship deal. These people are crossing legally to work, they have permits obviously! You should try going to www.fastweb.com and finding scholarships that suit your background. If you are going to live in El Paso, I think you should learn Spanish too. There are going to be a lot of Spanish speakers because you are so close to the border.

Your question sounds confusing: are you referring to the illegal aliens, or the mexican-americans? if you're referring to the mex-am's then it sounds like you're racist. Keep in mind that From Cali to Texas is heavily populated with Mexicans: Remember, Mexico is below Texas hun. And keep in mind too a lot of those migrant workers are possibly illegal immigrants but some of them fly under the radar and get fake documents so they won't get caught. And you have to consider this... Mexicans are the fastest growing demographic. Which means that they are going to fight for more things offered in spanish. But hey, if you go to new york or wash d.c. for a job you're definetly are going to have to speak some other kind of language or two. People of other nationalities need representation and that's the way it is, immigrants helped "color" this country, learn your history hun. I don't have a lot of time to break it down but your best bet is to learn spanish, or move to an area where you won't have to, and no that is not "illegal". And obviously you're not looking hard enough for scholarships because the money is out there for EVERYONE, so you just need to take some reliability and quit complaining and get with the program.

Yes, it is illegal. Most of the immegrants that are coming over to Texas will work for any wage and do any job. I read a story once that Mexican immegrants will work for pennies on the dollar. Basically they ride the system. They work here without paying taxes, they get medical and dental care and scholarships. It is not fair. Write to your congressman. There are ways to stop immegration but it takes more than just a few people.

For the most part your numbers are way off, its about 10,000 Mexicans (legal and not) entering El Paso just to go to school (at tax payers expense , of course) and about 25,000-30,000, entering to come to work (legally and illegally) The reason so many come illegally is that they have legal documents to enter (Local Border Crossing card) and the "claim" to come to shop or do business, but they come to work and take their kids to school here, and it needs to stop. Its very frustrating, but they are coming and the numbers are growing.

Reverse Discrimination is fun, isn't it?

Just accept it, you live in a zone where illegals are going to be, and since you are in america...reverse discrimination is rampant.
