What I need to know is is it ok to wear black pants to a wedding? and is it ok to bring along a black jacket in case I get cold since the wedding is outdoors?

Of course you can wear black pants to a wedding ... depending on the time of day, and season, you might not even need a jacket. If the wedding is outdoors during summer then you're going to be hot enough in those black pants ... the jacket will put you over the top. Although if it is a fall wedding, then a jacket might be more appropriate, depending on the weather in that area.

Etiquette....It is perfectly fine to wear black pants. Instead of a black jacket I would wear cardigan. Too much black is too buisness-like and you are not going to a funeral.

Yes I have seen lots of guys wear black. the groomsmen usually have a colored vest or band or something to stand out, so there's no reason why you can't.
