Yes, it can and does. I cannot be around it as it takes my breath away. Both my parents smoked. My mother has passed away 7 years ago from skin cancer and then my father had a heart attack 2 years ago. They told him 80% of his blockages in his heart were caused by the cigarettes and he has since stopped smoking. (clapping my hands). It is so much better for him and for anyone around him.

Second hand smoke is arguably harmful. So is inhaling diesel fumes and automobile exhaust. Stress in the form of harsh words or mental dilemmas also can cause physical illness or even death. Automobiles can kill you if you have the bad misfortune to run into a drunk driver, and you are around automobiles all the time when you drive. Living is dangerous and I do not think there is a very good answer to your question as far as risk factor goes. You could live in a hermetically clean environment in a sanitary building that happens to get hit by a 747 flown by crazed terrorists. Life is dangerous and nobody can predict what will ultimately cause you harm.
That said, smelling and breathing smoke is unpleasant. You may not even be talking about cigarette smoke (which I'm guessing everybody is assuming). If you are, then it would be because you find yourself in a living situation where people smoke. The best advice is to open windows and get some fresh air into the place. If you have no choice but to live there, stop stressing about it. For all we know, the stressing will cause more harm than the smoke. I know that not many people will agree with what I am saying, however, I believe it to be true, based on my own experiences. There is much hysteria that affects many people simply because of what they hear and choose to believe, not actually from what they experience.

Yes, by god run out of there!!!!!!! After 10 seconds, your head will blow up.
And yes, yes... it's worse than 1st hand smoke. The person smoking is healthier by sucking it directly into their lungs than you are by being in the room later. This seems to be the most logical thinking. But you can eat all the fast food, donuts, sodas you want, breath in all the car fumes you want, breath in all the gasoline while pumping gas, and endure the stress of working 60 hours a week(or have both you and spouse working and take care of kids at same time) in the most stressful jobs. They're okay, just don't go 100 miles of a burning cigarette.

I recognize what you imply. They do not must smoke. A humans breath can scent like cigarettes from consuming espresso and a mixture of what they devour. It can be a mixture of a sinus situation. Sometimes my mother's breath is this fashion on account that she beverages espresso and has a thyroid situation. I paintings with a man who does not smoke in any respect however, his breath smells adore it does. He's diabetic. Or, this man or woman would truthfully smoke.

Haven't you heard of second hand smoke. It is the reason that a lot of cities have banned smoking in public places. Second hand smoke has been shown to cause the same type of damage as smoking.
