My customers called and complained claiming I was prejudiced. I told them discounts couldn't be used with specials and they listened to me at my next table to see if I told them that. I didn't because, and I remember because I only had 3 tables that night, because it was a single genteleman, and the coupons were two for one (I never do). Why were they looking to cause problems? They did ask for compensation too. But they made me look bad and that sucks.

People are always afraid that they will not get something that someone else got. They can be a real pain, can't they.

Some people always want something for nothing and do not want to accept the rules that go along with a coupon, special or premium.

They are too lazy to read the fine print, and are embarrassed when confronted with their oversight and to cover their perceived humiliation or embarrassment, they will unfortunately, attack verbally the waitress, server or waiter; who seems to always have to bear the brunt of their rudeness because they are first in their line of fire.

My advise if the situation becomes too hostile or more than you can handle or involves rude, vulgar or obnoxious language, let the manager take care of it. You are not there to be a scapegoat or a sounding board for all of the disgruntled customers that come into your place of business. Nor should you let your self be.

they don't have your perspective and that was probably the only reason they could think of that you would not have offered them the same offer. they were not looking to cause problems, just trying to get something for themselves. they probably really believed you were treating them differently because of that reason. probably something before in their life when it did happen made them suspect it was happening again.
