My air works great riding down the road. But if i stop and idle for 15 seconds it blows hot air. It is NOT the amount of freon, I had it checked, and there is no trash built up in the freon radiator.

Also, the fan to the freon radiator never seems to come on EVER. Could this be the problem. All of my fuses are fine.

Yes the fan is your problem, it has to come on when the a/c is on, when you are down the road the air coming through the front grill cools the condenser
but when you stop there is no more air flow, there is a kit that includes the fan motor and the shroud on the condenser and you need to remove the freon to replace the condenser fan motor assembly, the condenser and the
shroud and the motor are removed as an assy and then you replace the motor and put it back, I think that fuse 39(condenser fan motor fuse) must
be blown, check those fuses carefully, If the fuses are ok you should have power to the fan when a/c is on, good luck

Ok crank it up, open all doors and turn A/C wide open. now lift the hood and see if the compressor is turning. look at the very front, this is the clutch and should be turning. If it is you problem is in the controls that open the flap to allow cold air to enter. Some are vacuum operated and some are electric. Check to see way the flap is not working. If commpressor is not turning when you make check, you have a bad thermostat telling the compressor to turn off, it's saying I'm cold enough. One other thing may be a bad pressure switch. This switch controls the compressor , when you step down on the gas to pass another car, it turns the compressor power off to keep from blowing it up under pressure.

I do agree with Brian and disagree, the air temp on either side of the truck would have nothing to do with the refrigerant amount since all cold air comes from one source ( be it low or have a full charge), the evaporator. But your problem is with the blend are doors, and the vacuum pump or lines has a leak or the doors are sticking (happens) What you would need is a OBD II or OTC or some other type of diagnosis tool that can access the Body controller and check the blend air door "steps" to see if the doors are working properly and also a vac gauge at the control panel on the dash to see if you are getting the right "signals" to the blend air door or what is called the HVAC assy. And coolant doesn't affect your A/C system, R134-A refrigerant does (its a type of pressurized gas)

Mechanic 9yrs< Your vehicle has 134a in it which, almost always requires a fan running at idle speeds no matter what to stay cool. You may have only one fan on your truck I'm not sure. Either way with engine running and a/c on is the fan on? It should stay on with the a/c on. It will cycle on and of with no a/c running but will run if a/c on. Your compressor is running otherwise you would not have cold air at any speed. If you are good with mechanics and electronics disconnect the fan from it's harness. Run a ground and power wire off the battery carefully and with the engine off of course. Make sure it's blowing towards the engine side otherwise reverse your connection. Make sure your jumper wires are out of the way of the engine stuff and start the engine and a/c. Wait a few minutes and check if it's cold. If it is then that's your problem. Not the fan but likely the a/c relay, fuse or, temp senor... After testing make sure to hook it back up the way it was.

I had the exact same problem in my 2002 dodge ram and we also checked the same things you did and then unfortunately we had the mechanic check it on the computer and it costed quite a bit, and come to find out there was a fuse blown that goes to the fan. So you just might want to check the fuses in the fuse box under the hood. that way you will only have to spend anywhere from $0.15 - $2.00 on a fuse instead of about $50 - $100. Hope this helped you.

The R-134A level cannot be accurate if the condensor fan never comes on. Refrigerant is direct acting with heat, meaning increase in pressure = increase in temperature. I would start with the fan. If you idle for any amount of time, the compressor will cycle off on the pressure switch. You may have a low charge but not low enough to deprive cooling when the RPM's are up.

the coolant level has nothing to do with the amount of freon it has and how the a/c system works in it,rick is right on this one you need to check the blend doors on it,when you loose a side on those trucks its usually a vent door that's not opening right, all the coolant level does is keep the engine cool it doesn't affect the a/c system as far as it cooling the insides down, you got a loss of vacuum on it or it has an inside control switch going bad on it,you have one main cooling coil in that truck and all the cool air comes of it ,there's not two different sources that this could come from, good luck

yep have a 2002 Dodge ram replaced the ac condenser fan and it works great. the trick was when i removed the battery and the battery mount that left plenty of room to remove old fan after i moved the fuse box to where battery sits and to remove battery mount you have to remove dirt guard around front left tire. Also the new fan and old fan you have to cut off a little piece of plastic where the top condenser pipe goes thru the shroud. But wow after you replace it 80.00 later and a little sweat it works awesome.
