I installed programs onto my computer and now when i start it the desktop icons, the start bar appear but then disappear instantly. I can only access the programs by task manager but im worried that its something that could harm the computer. What do i do to get those icons back?

Run you arrow down to below the bottom of your desktop so the taskbar pops up. Then right click on the taskbar and select ..lock taskbar.

The settings have change or you got a virus.
1. Make sure that your computer is free of viruses and spyware. Do a virus scan ( If you don't have a anti-virus, Trend Micro offer a free online virus scan service. see below )

2. Go to Display Properties (Right Click then choose properties then go to the desktop tab then choose customize desktop. Select all the Desktop icons then click on Restore Default.
3. Note that the start bar can hide automatically if the option is selected. Try with the mouse to go at the bottom of the screen and see if the start bar reappear.

Have you tried clicking the right mouse and then going to "Arange Icons by" then checking the show desktop item option.
If that doesn't work just go into control panel then add/remove program and just uninstall the program you installed.

Do a system restore. Uninstall the program and scan your computer for viruses. if you don't have an anti-virus software you can download a free one from here.

some of ur system files may have been deleted
try repairing ur pc by using the xp bootable disk

If you shoot the comupter everything will be ok
