I think this really demonstrates how out of touch with reality Christians are.

j3nny3lf, sorry for not being clearer. A Christian wrote as a response to another question that "atheists don't care whether they live or die" [not verbatim, but very close]. Being an atheist, I take issue with the idea that only Christians have purpose in their life. Delusion does not equal "purpose".

I think that the opposite is true.
Most atheists dearly love life; they understand this is the only shot one gets.

Two things here.
The first is that atheists, like every other person on this planet, run the whole gamut on their feelings as to whether or not they live or die. Some treasure life, some don't. Some want to live, some want to die. You simply cannot paint an entire grouping of people with one brush, it doesn't work.
The second is that what an atheist's view on life and death has nothing whatsoever to do with how in or out of touch with reality any Christian is. Your "demonstration" makes no sense.
Addendum after Giovanni's update:
Giovanni, thank you for addressing my second point. As A Christian, I also take issue with the idea that only Christians have a purpose in life. I believe that we ALL have a purpose, regardless of what we choose to believe in (or not believe in, as the case may be). I get very annoyed at the Christians out there who swing their judgement stick at everybody who doesn't subscribe to their own particular brand of snake oil - they make the rest of us look pretty bad. People have the free will to decide for themselves. Period.
And anybody who says that atheists don't care if they live or die hasn't met many atheists. I have many close friends who have no belief system and think that this life is all that they get. Most of those friends love life and care very much about living and aren't all that eager to rush headlong into death.
For that matter, I know many Christians who believe strongly that they are headed to eternal bliss when they die, and they TOO aren't eager to die. Life is a wonderful thing, whether you view it as a gift from God or as some amazing cosmic accident. It is here to be enjoyed and wallowed in, and most people are well aware of that, regardless of their faith system. :)

Some Christians (who know nothing of atheists) like to make presumptuous, incorrect, arrogant, grandiose statements about atheists, and then pat themselves on the back, thinking they are very clever. They just make idiots of themselves, because it's obvious that they do not understand, or care to understand, anything about atheists. Maybe if they would stop being such idiots, we would be able to take them more seriously. As it is, they just continue to prove themselves idiots, and prove that we're right to think that they're idiots.
(Again...not ALL Christians. There are some wonderful, brilliant Christians.)

I think that Y!A is a Darwinian struggle in which brute stupidity and shrill screaming and chest-thumping reign supreme:
"And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night."

I am a Christian and I wouldn't believe it for one second that atheists don't want to live. All people want to live, including Christians who believe they will go to Heaven. We all have self survival built into us, by God, including atheists.

I am not sure if that is true but I think everyone is different.
I am not an Athiest but instead am thankful to have life and think there is awesome opportunities we all have. That is what makes life interesting to me, among many other things.

I don't think ALL(EVERY SINGLE) Atheist don't care whether they live or die. I think only the ignorant ones think like that.
Life is a precious thing that should be valued .

Actually, given our knowledge of no afterlife, we tend to try and do more with this short time we have here. It is the turn the other cheek mentality that will get you killed in this world.

I think you're right. Every living thing STRIVES BLINDLY to exist and procreate. Has nothing whatsoever to do with free will or reason, however rational or irrational.

I think who ever wrote that is full of bull. Just because a person doesn't believe in God doesn't mean their life is meaningless. We are all here for a reason (my belief) and it's up to each of us, individually, to figure out what that reason is.
We are here to be happy.
