I think he would've still raced, even though his contract was to expire in 2003, and he was to retire after that(or so I hear) he probably would've kept going as long as he was still competitive, and he still had the drive to do it. He probably would've won another championship with this new format. Who knows though? I wish he still was alive so we can figure that out. RIP #3 1941-2001

He would be very nearly 56-years old, on April 29th. But Dale was Dale.

If he believed he could win a Cup he would be trying.

If he got #8, he would want #9. He chased those Cups for the same reason a dog chases rabbits, he couldn't help it!

In 2000, he nearly had #8. The previous 3 years he was having a problem with his neck. Surgery corrected the problem and he was his old self on the tracks once more in 2000. As 2001 began, he was happy, he felt good and he died doing something completely out of character. He was trying to finish 3rd at Daytona. I have no doubt that if he wanted, he could have won his second Daytona 500, but he wanted either his son or Michael to win. Michael had never won a race and he didn't want his son to wait 19 years for his first 500 win. He wanted his first 500 win as an owner. If he had tried for the win, he would most likely be alive and racing today, chasing that rabbit.

Dale hated restrictor plate racing but he was the best at it and it contributed to his death.

Dale wanted higher and stronger fences. Smokey Yunick thought for safety, NASCAR should just run smaller blocks on the superspeedways and ditch the plate. I would have taken either over the plate. Some people call those races exciting, but to me they are always excruciating, anxiety filled and nerve busting ridiculous. The slightest mistake and disaster looms. I'm 54 years old and 6 years after the fact, I still can't think of that day without tears.

I think he would have raced until the 2003 season and then he would have retired and ran DEI. It's a shame because it's so obvious that without Dale Sr that Theresa does not know what to do with DEI. I think that if Dale Sr were still here that Dale Jr would not be having the problems he is having now and that DEI would have a championship or two.

Dale Earnhardt would probably still be racing today. I'd say Part-Time schedule though. Everyone knew that Teresa has been on him forever to retire, especially after winning the Daytona 500 in 98'. I think he would of crawled out in the last couple of years. Unfortunately, We will never know... I might not have the right answer here but I think we all can agree on that

Firstly, learn to spell the man's name. Then learn to spell everything else.
This question is silly--no one knows. Had he retired when his wife begged him to--would he still be alive or would he have died in a farming accident? Dale was a joy to watch drive but that's gone now and he's not coming back and Dale Jr is no Senior

I hope so. More likely, he would've retired in the last couple of years or would be getting ready to. He would be an ancient driver by now. I still miss watching him sometimes though. He was fun to watch. Still think he was the best ever in my opinion.
