The fanatics hate knowledge, it hurts their little heads and therefore they throw temper tantrums and try to fend off the advancing knowledge.
It never mentions anything about getting an education in any 'holy book'.
They wanted to keep their followers immersed in religious nonsense so they could be manipulated.

I think that the free market mechanism has created an incentive for competing doctrines, churches and religions to attract new followers from the masses.
But I'd argue that fanaticism is inversely proportional to education, especially science education.

With advancement in technology comes luxury, comfort, wealth etc but human values of love, compassion etc are getting lost in the material flood. People feel empty inside and they realize it sooner or later. They realize that life is more than just fancy gadgets and seek the true meaning of life. Where are we headed? Where did we come from? What is the source of the universe's existence?

Now that we're bombarded with messages about events from the Internet, radio, television, and newspapers, it may look like fanaticism has increased. In reality, it's stayed roughly the same; it's merely our access to information that has increased.

No it's not fair. You can find fanaticism in every layer of society not only the religious.

Yes. Faith is simpler when knowledge is lesser. Therefore, when knowledge is more, faith is more difficult, so denial must be present and denial and religious fanaticism are like peas and carrots.

I don't think it's fair. I am Christian, but I don't think ones level of knowledge should be judged by what religion they do, or do not practice. Religion, to me, has more to do with your heart, rather than just your mind.

I think RELIGION is inversely correlated with human knowledge.
As a result, whenever a religion is challenged, the followers (and leaders) tend to respond by being more and more radical.

point taken...however technology just allows each individual to express their perspective....
...overall...no matter what one may drum up in regards to their own religous views...human knowledge will always follow the leader.

Well it is pushing them into a less defensible position. So they are having to deny facts a lot more. Is that what you mean?
