and they could not find her ovaries! does anyone know if this is common???she is approx.8 months old!

While rare, absent or underdeveloped ovaries do occur. In some cases they're just not in the normal locations, so keep a close eye out for hormone-related behavior. A tiny ovarian remnant can produce enough hormone to trigger heat-cycle behavior, even if it doesn't make enough eggs for her to get pregnant. Depending on where and how you got the cat, it might be possible she was spayed early - some shelters get them done as early as 8 weeks. Best wishes to your kitty.

Did they then have a look for testes?
It can be common for males' testicle/s not to descend so perhaps she is a he.
Has "she" already come into season seeing the cat is 8 months old?
Just a suggestion

Wow! I have heard of cases where a "he" cat turns out to also be a "she." Must be a birth defect. I just hope it causes no problems?
