Well, this coming summer, me and some friends are going to a convention. We have gone for several years, and each year, we always kid about bringing a camera and doing a documentary. This year, I am really bored, and feel like I know the convention well and need something to do.. soooo.. I was thinking of really doing a homemade documentary of it. I suppose I could sell it or post it online, but it's mainly for my own entertainment and for my friends to see. I am wondering, though, what is the cheapest and/or easiest camera/microphone/tape to use? I do not have a video camera, but do not want to dish out alot of cash. And I would idealy be recording almost 100 hours of footage. How do I contain all that? Is there any tips and hints for filming a homemade for personal use only film like this? is it too much an undertaking? etc.

You could always rent a camera from your local camera shop. Not sure where you're located but, you could visit places like Samy's or Calumet. They have a rental department although you may have to submit a credit card deposit. Some of the guys there may be able to answer any of your questions about the camera you'll be renting. Good luck and have fun!

there is a real good chance that the venue of the convention may prohibit video, most do. so you will need to obtain written permission of the sponsors, or else plan around how to cover the event without actually shooting inside, such as doing interviews in your hotel room. generally you can sneak in a still camera, and some digital still cameras can make a short MP1 video clip, stealth. The stills can be narrated over in the final cut. I suggest you start thinking out, even writing a script of what scenes you expect to get and putting together a story line. if you miss out a shot, there's no going back to get another.

besides a camcorder, you will need video editing gear for your computer and that is not inexpensive so put it in the budget. A mini DV tape is good for 1 hour, so that will not be an insignificant part of the budget either. you should be able to pull it off for around $4000.

one million container chocolate cake mixture, 3 eggs, one million can cherry pie filling. integrate each and every thing & bake in a 9 x 13 pan for roughly 30 minutes (or till performed). enable it cool thoroughly, then perfect with some cool-whip and yet another can of cherry pie filling. this is even extra advantageous in case you may enable the cake take a seat over night till now putting on the cool whip & cherries. have faith me - they are going to love you for it!

Your best bet is ebay.
