My friend called me today saying that she just realized her boyfriend added their baby to his health insurance 6 months ago (the baby is now just over 6 months old and the new insurance took effect 2 days after he was born). They never got a card though- so she wasn't sure until she asked him to check on it.
Well, she called his dr to let them know they had other coverage and was informed that she was supposed to tell Medicaid the moment they added the baby to any other insurance- now she's worried she'll have to pay medicaid back for everything! or deal w/ the hassel of trying to get the other insurance comp to pay it.
She wanted to know what to do. Should she deal w/ it all? Just call medicaid and cancel, not saying anything? or what? She was worried medicaid would check w/ the new insurance to verify if she told them she was going to add the baby to her health care. She told the dr office she didn't have the new insurance info & still wasn't 100% sure he was added.

She absolutely needs to tell Medicaid about this. What she is doing is committing insurance fraud.

she needs to talk to medicaid and she certainly does not need to take the baby of the boyfriends insurance if they can afford it why should the public have to foot the bill.

you should tell her that she needs to tell her bf to take the baby off of his insurance. she will probably get into trouble and have to pay back the state if she tells medicaid. plus, why pay for insurance coverage, and doctor visits, and other stuff if you qualify for medicaid through the state? he should just take the baby off his insurance.

if the baby qualifies for medicaid, you should continue with that. get your bf to take the baby off of his insurance. that should fix things right away.
