I removed wallpaper from my bathroom and have found that the old sizing on the wall has peeled away leaving bare plaster in places. I have sanded the walls but the next day the leftover sizing has begun to peel again. What is the best way to prepare the wall for paint? Should I re-size the walls or try to remove all the size before applying the primer? Also what is the best primer for this situation?

I had that problem, also. But, went to Lowe's paint department, told them my problem and they gave me a mixture to remove the sizing and yes, I had to put primer on after the entire wall was removed of the sizing.

After getting all of that done, was able to put a fresh coat of paint on the walls. It looks great!

Try that first.

You need a wallpaper remover to remove the glue sizing which is what it sounds like you have. Just mix it as you would to remove paper and then wash the walls with it. you may need to keep the walls wet for a few minutes for the product to soften the dried material. Zinzer makes a product called Cover Stain that I like a lot, it is similar to other primer sealers but dries to a more matte finish and I think therefore causes less "flashing" or shiny spots on the finish coat. Good Luck!

You definitely want to remove the old sizing before priming and painting. It will peal off regardless of wether you have primed and painted real well. You will want to use a high quality latex primer for priming a bathroom.
