Most teenagers do not have the mental capacity to make the correct decision on what to wear, never mind the correct decision on who to date. And no, you will not understand this for a while yet, but it's true.
Those laws exist to protect you from creeps. And yes, your boyfriend is a creep. No man dates a girl. They date women.

In my opinion, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. I think some females by the age of 16 think pretty rationally about relationships; note that I said SOME, not all. I think it is extremely likely that a female at your age is mature enough to date a 21 y/o. In my experience, not many relationships like this last, but then again, not many young relationships do (... but I've never thought that they were meant to last forever).
Your legal concerns most likely are not an issue. Most states' age of consent for sex in a male-female relationship is 16 (or younger)... the only states where the age of consent is still 18 for a male-female relationship is: Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. You can find a chart with this information by searching the internet for "Age of Consent." Many of the states I listed (with a mention of 18 y/o) have two ages listed, which generally means the age is different for males and females to consent, or that the law is under revision or unclear. I would suggest referencing this information if you're truly concerned about the legal implications as some states have really confusing statutes.
Obviously, though... keep it safe. Oh, yeah... and have fun. ;-)

ehh, I've actually done this.
while not the best of ideas (I being the older one, ended it very quickly, because we ended up being just too different), you can't control who you're attracted too, as well as the fact that all relationships/love/romantic interaction is based on sex, so this isn't necessarily some illegal, carnal, dangerous nonsense. However, if I hadn't done this, I can't sit and say, with any honest concience, that it's wrong, or I'd know what would happen, like most people would do, just because they do and believe what society tells them to, without questioning anything.
I'd say go for it, but just don't be stupid, or do anything illegal or moronic. Also, realize that you guys are in different worlds, and you'll have to hear about things like, well, high school drama, that I'm sure you're well passed (unless you're the 16 year old, in which case, realize that a lot of you may say will get old to the older party, who has learned that what happens in High School is petty, and doesn't matter, and while they don't think you are petty/don't matter, since HS is much of your world, it may seem like it to you. Don't be mistaken though. He/she cares, or else they wouldn't be seeing you).
Oh, and do both of the daters' parents know? Don't get into that whole world of lying thing. It could certainly cause trouble (I have a friend who got into a whole legal mess, and now, he's a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, even though most people, after hearing what happened objectively, would say that nothing wrong/incorrect/inherently immoral transpired).
Love who you will, and learn how you will. Most important, be smart. That's all.

I don't see too much of a problem. 5 years age difference is bound to affect how each of you think, and 16 is rather young, but it's not an impossible relationship in my opinion. The worst that could happen is that the 16 year old isn't ready yet, or the 21 thinks that the 16 year old is too immature... But really, love is love, so just be careful and double check everything you do, and you'll be fine. ;)
And by the way, this is NOT illegal. While it's true the 16 is a minor, as long as both parties are consenting and the parents of the minor are fine with it, it's fine.

I'm 21 and I was dating a16 year old, which I was hesitant to at first, but she's shown to be more mature than the average 16 year old. We don't have sex because I don't feel right about it...I feel like I'd be taking advantage and plus it's illegal to my knowledge...if you love the person, it's worth the wait. 5 years seems like a big deal now, but it won't in 2 years...18 and 23 sounds better than 16 and 21. There's a lot of things to consider being young though...make sure you're both on the same level of commitment...you haven't gone to college yet, that may change things because it's a whole new world...you may want to date around...so just make sure you know what you want and you both can see a future together, that's important.

Ok so honestly, 16 and 21? Well it doesn't sound like anything huge but I think you should still wait until 18 I mean you only have 2 years to wait. Even though I know it sounds long. Maybe you can go steady.. and well I don't honestly think you are heading on the right direction and you probably won't like this answer very much. But that's what I will express my feelings towards this.

18 AND 40 IS ONE THING..16 AND 19 IS ANOTHER...
the legal fact of the matter is..YOU ARE OR HE IS A MINOR..
JAILBAIT..IS WHAT IT IS...sorry for being like this...but there is no other way around it...
you HAVE a legal guardian...they CAN sue your bf/gf for having sex with you as having improper relations with a minor
the laws are there for protection...and there is nothing else that can be said..
after you turn 18..then the rules change..as you are your own guardian

What do you mean I have safe sex with him?!!! If you guys really loved each other, you wouldn't be posting about the sex, you would be posting about how he treats you.
Rigth now the only picture I get on my mind, is that you like him because he is mature, and he likes you because of your youth!
That's not love.

it's kind of sketch if your parents are okay with you having sex with your boy/girlfriend when you're 16.
and since you've already done it, even though it's 'illegal', looks like it turned out fine. so yeah i think it's okay..i'm mainly just concerned about how your parents are okay with your serious relationship with him/her
