The name of the Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the nickname is "Mormon". Mormons are Christians, since we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. If your friend has invited you to attend her Church, you should go and find out what it's all about. You will discover that we are very similar to other Christian Churches. Many of the hymns sung in the meetings will be familiar to you. We study the Bible, the same as other Christian Churches. The only difference is that we do not pass a collection plate.

I hope that this helps.

Mormons are Christian. If your friend has invited you to church, then as a friend it should not hurt to go at least once to see what it is like. After that if you choose not go again, I am sure your friend will understand. You will probably learn more about the church in one day be going to church than reading answers here. What ever you decide needs to be your decision, nobody elses. You must not be pressured into going to church any more than you should be pressured into not going. If you need advice you can always pray and ask the Lord if it would hurt to attend church for one week with your friend.

One piece of advice my father always used to give me while growing up when I was considering buying a certain product, was not to buy a product that advertises how bad its competitors are. If it can't sell on its own merits and has to resort to trying to discredit the competition than it's not worth buying. I feel the same thing applies to religion, if it can't persuade you on its own merits and resorts to discrediting the competition then it has a problem.

You know, I do keep on getting confused on why many Christians say we have a "different Jesus". We believe in Christ, that he is the son of God, that he is our Savior, and that he is the only means whereby we can obtain salvation. If Christians believe in a different Jesus than this, please enlighten me.

Mormons are a group of Christians. We believe in the same things as Christians, only we believe God speaks today and that he spoke to others as well as the Jews. Many other Christians would limit the power of God to the bible alone. We love and use the bible as well, but we have the Book of Mormon (where Christ visited the Americas) and other books of more modern revelation. We have living prophets who are special witnesses of Christ, and who are the mouthpiece of the Lord in our day. Basically we believe that, just as God didn't give Adam every commandment including how to build an arc (that was meant for Noah's time and in his day), that God still has revelation meant for our day which was not included in the bible. Also, in a world with shaking values and people becoming skeptical of Christ, we have prophets who testify of him, that he lives, and that he speaks to us.

I hope this helps. God bless.

I visited an LDS Church with an (ex)girlfriend and her family. I am not Mormon and did not feel welcome there. With every person they introduced me to they had to tell that I was "not a member". Did that really need to be said every time?

Mormons are Christian's,and they just have another seperate book to their Bible, The Book of Mormon. They have a lot more rules to live by.

Christians believe in the Bible. Mormons believe in the Bible. Mormons also believe in the Book of Mormon. It is scripture from the saints in the Americas from ancient times. it also contains Christ's visit to the Americas after his Resurrection. It is called the book of Mormon because of the Prophet Mormon who compiled all the records together from the history of his people in about 420 AD. If you are confused, ask your friends Dad, or Mom, or the missionaries to answer your questions. They will gladly answer any questions that you have so you understand. May God bless!

Here's a couple of good websites that may help answer some of your questions about what Mormons are and what they believe:

www.lds.org
www.mormon.org

Here's an example of what you can learn from the websites:

(taken from mormon.org)
Question:
Are you Christians?

Answer:
Gordon B. Hinckley, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said:

"We are Christians in a very real sense and that is coming to be more and more widely recognized. Once upon a time people everywhere said we are not Christians. They have come to recognize that we are, and that we have a very vital and dynamic religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ."

"We, of course, accept Jesus Christ as our Leader, our King, our Savior...the dominant figure in the history of the world, the only perfect Man who ever walked the earth, the living Son of the living God. He is our Savior and our Redeemer through whose atoning sacrifice has come the opportunity of eternal life."

"Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pray and worship in the name of Jesus Christ. He is the center of our faith and the head of our Church. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and witnesses of His divinity, His life, and His Atonement."

It's unfortunate that in this day and age that ignorance, intolerance, and discrimination continue to abound... (referring to some of the previous "answers" to the question that was asked).

Good luck in your quest for truth.

There are some major differences.
I would encourage you not to go there or at the very least to find out more before you go.

No difference. We are The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints.

2 Nephi 25:26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (Book of Mormon)

they will say they are Christians but they use another book and say it is just a 2nd witness to gods word but then Deny some of Gods word, the masses on the bottom level have real motives trying to be good Christians but the higher ups are into false doctrine and even can be linked back to satan ism and angel worship, which the real bible tells us to stay clear!
here is the real christian way, read this;
