Guys always tell me they feel so tall and strong next to me... like I'm a little girl they have to protect...
I don't get it... what it is all about?

I'm 5'1" and on the heavy side. Guys still tell me the same thing. There is a good chance you'll get called "Little (insert name here)" and people probably call you midget.
It's not really about anything. You are short. Guys like to feel strong and big and you deliver that. Feel good, there will never be a guy that feels overpowered by you (generally a bad thing).
On the other hand, be careful and consider taking a self defense class. You are a small woman and some guy may try to take advantage of that.

Don't try to read into it too much. It's kind of a macho guy thing. Guys like to feel like they are the protectors, it's nothing to be concerned with.
Take it as a complement that the person feels comfortable being around you and wants to be able to protect you if needed.
Don't take any chances though, some guys just look or act tough! Carry mace or a stun gun just in case they run off like a little baby. just kidding.

Hey don't feel bad...I'm the exact same way but I'm not average built either, I'm extremely skinny. Sometimes it gets annoying because they look at you differently and sometimes they don't always see you as "hot" or "sexy" but in the end it'll be a blessing because if they feel the need to protect you then they won't be trying to get into your pants. Then if they date you you know it's probably because they really love you and they aren't trying to get something out of it.

I dated a girl that was 4'10..never talked about her height..
or teased her about it...I guess the guys you dated or a bit weird
