A friends cat had to be put down recently, vet said it was poisoning, so I would like to know if any others out there have had a sick cat after feeding it dry food. Does anyone know where ( in the San Diego area ) she could have the remaining food tested ?

Jilly,
The dry food was made by one of the companies who has withdrawn it's wet foods. I'm thinking maybe it's the same food but put through a drying process.

If you are referring to the recall. No, dry food is not affected. I work at Petsmart, I've been dealing with this for a week now.

Different food entirely. The wet food has wheat gluten and it was wheat gluten tainted with rat poisening that caused the recall. You can ask the vet to have the food sent out for testing (also, he/she should have drawn blood to have it analyzed to determine what type of poison was responsible. Would be interested to know why the vet thinks it was poisoning. You can also call the manufacturer and explain what happened - they will often want to test the food to make sure and will have you send in a cup for testing

Yesterday, a lady using the name "Jennifer" posted an alert here in Yahho Answers about her cat who died from kidney failure after eating DRY Iams cat food. Scroll down the question pages under "cats" and see if you can find her Qestion, which was:

"IAMS Weight Control Dry Food-Kidney Failure?"

You might also check the website "Pet Connection.com" These guys ask pet owners whose cats or dogs have died or taken ill to report it in their data base. Perhaps you can find something there that will match what your freind went through.

Good luck.

There is no recalls on the dry foods and I have been feeding my cat Science Diet Hairball Control for at-least 7 years and he is doing great. He is a Norwegian Forest Cat and in great health he has a great life and spoiled beyond spoiled.

honestly, i have a male cat who can no longer have dry food. it makes his urine too alkaline and he gets crystals. this might be how the other cat had kidney failure, my poor kitty had to have his system back filled with water. he was almost conpletely blocked. the vet said about another day and his kidneys would have failed. switch you cat to wet food if urinary ploblems arise.

Go here: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_cat.html
to check if your food was recalled. I think it was only wet food, though.

What is the food. You did not say what food it was.
