Yes, I agree. Any immigrant coming to live in our country is being given an opportunity for a better life (more than likely ) and need to be willing to work and earn their way. They can certainly hold onto their heritage and culture while becoming a good American citizen.

I think that instead of teaching american values, immigrants should be taught how to survive in a country that don´t allow them to have the same condition of the native person. Immigrants are responsable for the growth of the country. Who cleans the dirty dish? Who cleans the house, the streets, who delivers the pizza that you eat at home.?

Their kids typically learn them through peer pressure.
For example, the post office accidentally delivered a letter to me that was for another subdivision, and I drove over there to drop the letter off.
The neighborhood was heavily Hispanic. The ~35-40 year old man who answered the door did not speak English. He turned around and yelled into the house and his 12-year old son came to the door.
He said "Hey man, what's up!" in perfect English
I explained that I had received some of their mail, and he thanked me and closed the door.
Anti-immigration has always occurred during any large influx of foreigners--the Irish, Italians, whatever......
They generally integrate within one or two generations, that's just how American society is.

what are 'American' values?
What values are uniquely American?
Do you think that America has the patent on freedom? Or wanting to live in a safe place to raise a family? Or that anyone, no matter what circumstances they were born into, can be a success in life?
Those are all HUMAN values, not just American.

Sure. To a certain point you need to assimilate into a culture that you chose to move into. Why would you move someplace that you don't like the culture?
