My Daddy-USMC
by Laine Estep
When my Daddy goes to work,
He's always dressed in green.
He has to be, because you see,
He's a United States Marine.
My Daddy is so very strong;
He's also very brave.
So when I fall and skin my knees,
It's Daddy's arms I crave.
When in this world there is trouble,
My Daddy will be on the scene.
He will be, because you see,
He's a United States Marine.
When my Daddy has to go away,
To protect some far off land,
Mommy and I will wait and pray,
To again hold Daddy's hand.
My Daddy will tell me stories,
About all the things he's seen,
While he was protecting freedom,
As a United States Marine.

Military Brat
I am a Military Brat
My hometown is nowhere, my friends are everywhere.
I grew up with the knowledge that home is where the heart is
and the family....
Mobility is my way of life.
Some would wonder about roots, yet they are as deep and strong
as the mighty oak. I sink them quickly, absorbing all an area offers
and hopefully, giving enrichment in return.
Travel has taught me to be open.
Shaking hands with the universe, I find brotherhood in all men.
Farewells are never easy.
Yet, even in sorrow comes strength and ability to face tomorrow
with anticipation....if when we leave one place,
I feel that half my world is left behind. I also know that
the other half is waiting to be met.
Friendships are formed in hours and kept for decades.
I will never grow up with someone, but I will mature with many.
Be it inevitable that paths part, there is constant hope
that they will meet again.
Love of country, respect and pride
fill my being when Old Glory passes in review.
When I stand to honor that flag, so also do I stand in honor of all
soldiers, and most especially, to the parents whose life created mine
Because of this, I have shared in the rich heritage of Military life.

My Daddy is A Soldier
My daddy is a soldier
he's often gone away
to some far away country
where he has to stay.
I really miss my daddy
and I'm not sure what he does
except he helps other people
who need him very much.
At night when I say my prayers
I ask to keep daddy safe
so that he can come home to us
and sit in his favourite place.
Some nights I can hear mommy cry
when she thinks I'm asleep
I know she misses daddy
and her sadness hurts real deep.
I know that a day may come
when daddy won't come home
and it scares me even thinking
that we will be alone.
My daddy is a soldier
he's often gone away
And I am so very proud of him
each and every day.
Come home to us dadddy
When your job is done
I know that those people needed you
But they aren't the only ones.

Well, I do not know of any books of poems of fathers being off to War, but I have a book that I was given by a dear friend. It is called "This Place I know" It is actually poems of comfort written for children. It is about 9/11 which set off the War on Terrorism, and it may give an understanding as to why Daddy has to be off fighting the war, I think there may be one Poem in it that talks about going to war, but I am unsure as I have not read it in a long time.
It was given to me by a friend after I had lost my mother. The poems had nothing to do with how I lost her, as she died from complications do to a bowl obstruction, but the poems were of comfort in the fact that I realized so many children had lost parents that day. They were young parents, and the children were very young. I had my mother until she was seventy. This book also reminded me that men are still dieing on behalf of this terrorist act, and they are working to make our country a safe place, and to keep it free.
I value the men including this childs father for protecting me and keeping my country free and safe. My father and my adoptive father who raised me both faught in the war. My adoptive father took a bullet to the back, this was world war two, and my real father fell off the back of a truck in a convoy and was never the same again, this was the Korean War. They were both fighting for what they believe in. I find comfort in this book.
My son is a handicap child, and because we live in a free country with adiquate health care, my son as the best available even though we do not have a lot of money, and it is because men fight for our rights, including your grandbaby's father. Many children who have the problems that my son have will die before the age of five in other countries because they don't have the care that they need. I am sorry that your son in law has had to sacrifice such a loving family to protect my rights, but I do truely appriciate his dedication.
Again the title is "This Place I Know Poems of comfort" Powems Selected by Georgia Heard Illustrations by Eighteen Renowned Pictue book Artists.
I hope this is what you are looking for.

there is an Elmo video about deployment. you would have to find it at a military support center, in the army it is called Army Community Service, i dont know what it is called in the marines. it is a great movie for children with a deployed parent. here is a link to tell more about it.

look in a Christian book store, I think I saw one there the other day. They often have books like this that don't deal directly with real religious issues, but with family issues.
