Ya need to elaborate on this - there are thousands of different reasons you aren't sleeping. Try sleeping w/o any sound on (or a relaxing CD in the room), a dark room, and then slowly relax your body from your toes to your fingers.

Without knowing you it is hard to properly answer this question. Are you under a lot of stress? Do you drink a lot of caffeine? Try taking walks in the morning if possible, in the evening after dinner feels good too. Swing your arms, walk fast, walk slow then rest. Enjoy the sounds around you. Close your eyes and imagine your favorite place, breathe in and out totally relax. Drive home, take a nice warm relaxing bubble bath with the works, candles, soft music. Get a book and read till you get sleepy and sleep peacefully.

If this doesn't help take melatonin or 2 benadryls. Sleep well.

Just a few questions for you--
(and a basic summation below)

How late do you usually stay awake?
Do you get irritated when you can't get to sleep at a reasonable time?
Do you have any stress in your life at the moment?
Are you afraid of sleep?
Are you afraid of the dark?
Does your mind just keep going and going-even though your physical body feels like its just going to fall over if you dont get some sleep soon?
Are you on any current medications that say may cause excitability or irritability?
OK-
If you are a first shift type of person, 3-4 or am is a serious sign that there IS a sleep disorder of some kind.(Or anything after that of course)

If by a certain time, say 3 am, you havent been able to sleep, and you really have to be up the next day, find yourself getting so irritated that you can't sleep? -When you get irritated, you up your heart rate, and your blood will pound-this will definately keep you from being able to fall asleep.
-Then you need to do all you can to calm yourself.

Stress is in every day life of hundreds of thousands of ppl,
it is the lead cause for sleep disorders, mainly insomnia.
Insomnias are catorgized, basically Light, Moderate, and Severe.

If you have a problem sleeping due to what happens while you sleep, or a past problem-does or did something scare or threaten you?

As in some cases, there are those of us who are terrified of the dark-for what reasons, only we know I guess, but, if you share that common fear, then I share your pain. This also will cause you to not be able to get to sleep, there again, adrenalin factor, racing heart, .....

Usually, if you reach the point where your body feels like its just going to crash if it doesnt rest,,,,but your mind races about any and every little detail,,,,doesnt even have to be something your worried about. Its like your mind still wants to process information- but -you are just overloaded, and need to reboot.
-This would denote a more than likely diagnosis with a depression clause tacked in. Depression with insomnia.

If you are currently taking any kind of medication, read the information on that medication,,,,could it be causing you to be more alert and active when you feel you should be resting?
If more than one medication-do they counteract each other to cause this side effect?
Or are you immune to sedatives, relaxants and tranquilizers?
(In the RECOMMENDED dose??)
I know some ppl who have this trouble,,,,although they shouldnt exceed a dosage, they usually double it to TRY to get at least tired enough to lay down and TRY to get some rest.
I DONT recommend this, if you feel it is that serious, PLEASE call someone!!!!!

It could be really complex, like that.
Or could be really simple and could be just diet, or what you ate, lack of exercise, or weather,
You need to see a professional to make this call.
And if you do,
make sure you ask about non-habit forming sleep aids,,,,
it isnt a cycle you want to get looped into.

I didnt mean to be so airy with the whole thing, but I suffer from a severe case ,,,and I have lost alot over lack of sleep.

I hope you can find some peace, and get some rest.
Good luck to you, and sweet dreams.

I don't know. Maybe a chemical imbalance. Try taking Milatonin (You can get it at any place that sells supplements). It works for me.
