Standard (or Universal) time was invented by a Canadian to keep train schedules running at set times so people would now exactly when a train would arrive in their town. Before that, train schedules were set according to each town's local time, very confusing for the conductor and train engineer who was trying to keep the train on schedule at each stop.
I also heard that basketball was actually invented and first played at a university in Toronto.
And Superman's creator was Canadian, as well as the author of Winnie the Pooh.

You can start with the fact that Alexander Graham Bell was Canadian and conceived and did initial work on many of his inventions at his Nova Scotia home, although much of his telephone execution work was done at a laboratory in Boston, USA.
