To view a excel document in which you don't have the Excel software on your computer, you will need to download a software called Excel viewer from Microsoft website.
The Excel viewer will let you open the excel document, as well as print the document but you will not to be able to make changes to the document since you don't own or have the Excel software on your computer.
The free Excel viewer is available for free at the link below

Well, of course, you could go to the nearest Best Buy, Circuit City, what have you, and buy a copy of Microsoft Office or just the stand-alone Microsoft Excel, of course.
But...BUT...there's a BETTER way: You can also, for FREE, download a copy of OpenOffice.org, which is a completely FREE office suite that is 100% compatible with documents created in any component of Microsoft Office. If you're on a high-speed connection, it shouldn't take you very long at all, but if you're on a dialup connection, it'll take you several hours to download (it's something like 90 MB if I remember right).
What's more, OpenOffice.org is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux, and it has almost all the features of Microsoft Office to boot -- just about everything you will ever need in an office suite! And it's all just a free download away at http://www.openoffice.org :-) I have it on my Linux box at home and I love it, and I think you'll be quite happy with it, too.

You can download a free Excel Viewer from Microsoft. This 'light-weight' version of Excel allows you to view excel files, without having the full version. That said, you must be running Microsoft Windows (preferably Windows XP). Here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c8378bf4-996c-4569-b547-75edbd03aaf0&displaylang=EN
Hope this helps.

Try right clicking on the file and select open. When the list of applicaion is made viewable try selecting word pad. This may work, but you really need excel on your computer to view that file. Maybe you can email the file to someone you know that has excel. they can then open the file in excel and copy the text you need into wordpad and email it back to you. good luck!!!
