Why do girls prefer taller guys for 'protection'? It doesn't make sense *at all* to me. Yes, back in prehistoric times, I could definitely see the perks of having a taller mate. However, in today's world, one needs typically needs brains over brawn. Are girls just thinking along the lines of, 'Well, we might run into a gang or something, and I'll need a guy to kick some butt for me'?

Thanks for your answers thus far, everyone. A lot of you are saying that the want for a taller guy is part of a woman's instinct. However, how much of that want is also part of societal standards?

If I could teach every guy in the world one thing it would be:
Don't less so much to what a girl actually says,
Listen to what she means.
Let me explain, a girl says she likes tall guys. And even more, says it because of protection. It is easy for guys to get caught up on words. When a girl says she likes tall guys it what she associates with tall men. What she likes is what tall guys have made her feel in the past. Tall guys make her feel secure. They feel safe and comfortable when they are with a tall guy. That's the feeling you have to give girl when she's with you. Nevertheless, she may just like tall guys because. Some people just like certain things but there's usually something behind a person's likes if you can get them to tell you.
Now, on how to make her feel secure, that's your call. And don't think every tall guy makes a girl feel protected cause I'm sure there's more than a few cases. In fact, I know a few. I'm 6' 2'' and all my friends are taller than me. If you feel like these girls with tall-guy fetishes are worth it, than you have to get into their feelings. Ask them, "So, when you're out with a tall guy, how does it feel? what's it like? what does he do? what does he do that makes you feel secure?"
Other than that, I'm sure you can understand a girl thinking I want my guy to be able to fight to protect her. But I'm sorry, I'm tall, 230 lbs, and people tell me my arm muscles are huge but if I'm out with a girl and we run met a gang. F*ck the pride BS, life's too short & you never know what someone's packing.
I'm grabbing her hand or carrying her on my back out of there full speed. But whatever, I just don't think that's what girls are thinking about when tall guys. Alot of short guys are little monsters in a fight. Remember, focus on what's behind the words and their feelings. Good luck man.

Not all girls are in it for taller guys! I happen to be a very short girl and I could care less how tall a guy is. You have a major point. If a guy has brains, what the use in brawn. Oh, and just because your short doesn't mean you can't kick but too. You just have to find the right girl! Good Luck!

Mmmm... To be sincere , i have no idea. (i am nonetheless an top college pupil so what i am gonna say does not observe to every body) In high school, while the fellow is smaller than the woman , the couple get teased plenty : I consider that is suck due to the fact love should not be restricted to physic. I'm particularly small for a lady so my BF are typically taller or the identical measurement as me (i am five"three) however I consider that although the fellow is smaller than me, that is good enough. I would possibly not juge the fellow i really like on his physic :)

well youve never been a female and gotten picked on or trampled over at the grocery store. notice how much more respect when there is a guy there with you. even when a jerk head calls the house if you are single they will mess with you but u put your husband on the phone and they straighten out. it doesnt just go back to prehistoric times u twit. anyway taller or not taller it nice having a guy there to bakc u up and help you being a woman in todays society.

short answer- because they are programmed that way.
Not saying thats a bad thing, just the way it is. there are desires in women that men are programmed for that probably don't make sense as well.
The other answer is that most women feel that it's natural for the man to be larger, taller. For women image plays alot into getting them to feel romantic and having a guy who is taller than they are...even if they are 6ft 2 in themselves....is part of making them feel like a woman.
Unfair? Probably, unfortunatly thats life.

No, i just think it became a normal idea.... People conclude this will happen... girls do anyway. Alot think they will go out with a person taller than them. My cousin has weird standards--- for example--- she only goes out with guy's 5'10. Mind you some of these guys were smart.... and some of them well I just wonder how they graduated from high school . It might just be a preference.

Protection?????
I have never felt the need to be protected by my bf. I'm a somewhat tall girl (5'7'') and I just like the way it feels when a tall guy holds me in his arms. With a shorter guy, I always feel like he's rubbing his face in my cleavage.
Sorry, but I vote for the guy with the height (so I can wear heels) lol.

I prefer taller guys than myself because I just like the way we fit physically. A man who's size is more than mine just feels good, societal values have nothing to do with it.

Do you mean protection as in just there for you or protection as in beating someone up?
If it's the latter, I don't think that that's the first thing that comes to our mind. I like tall guys because well, I'm tall but other than that:
x. Tall guys just look manlier
x. It's wonderful to lean back and kiss
x. Perfect cuddling
The 'protection' thing I think would only come into mind if some guy was messing around with me.

It's very reassuring for a woman to know that her guy can protect her. Many things have changed throughout history but some basic things may never change, and I like it that way.
I definitely prefer tall men who are also intelligent, kind and secure.
