Amps overheat mostly due to lack of power. Sounds backwards but that's the way it is. Are your power and ground wires big enough?
To fix this problem do the following:

Do the Big3 Upgrade (power -charge- wire from alt. to batt., ground from batt. to frame, ground from frame to engine block) all in 4g or larger wire. You may add to existing factory wiring or replace factory wiring, your choice.
This will solve your problem as well as problems you aren't aware of, like your alternator that is being stressed and headlight dimming.
Also, make sure the amp is face-up. It cannot disappate heat upside-down.
Do the Big3 and your problem will stop, I promise.

Good Luck!

if its overheating you probably have it hooked up wrong either the ohm load is to low or the power and ground wires arent sufficient or the amp is just bad
