Ouch!
If they're scuffed up, put some Neosporin on them. If it hasn't cleared up by morning or they're really cut up, you'll need a trip to the vet.
Good luck!

First off... You were irresponsible. You shouldnt have let him get away from you. I have owned APBTs for a lot of years and have never had one get away from me.
About the paws... You should clean them with Hydrogen Peroxide several times throughout the day. Keep them VERY clean.
Be more careful. Pit bulls are very often dog aggressive, even those that havent ever shown signs of animal agression before. Be a responsible pit bull owner instead of one of the ones we read about.
Edited: I was in NO WAY disrespectful to you. Dont be a jerk just becasue people arent giving you the answer you want (which I did but you want to be an *** instead).

Take him to the vet right away.
Keeping them conditioned if they were already dry and splitting means he needs to go to the vet also, then checking them periodically, and rubbing in a moisturizer if needed (like shea butter). The vet may also have a medication to remove excess callouses (keratosis?).
For now, he needs to see the vet. Then ask about keeping the pads in good condition after they heal, and what surfaces he shouldn't run on.

Take him to the vet. If you do not, his pads could get badly infected, and if left untreated could lead to the loss of his paws, even entire legs if the infection gets really bad.
How did this happen? Was he pulling on the leash the whole way? Or was someone dragging him by the leash?
I just can't see this happening with him "just running" on the road on his own, but I guess anything is possible.

Don't listen to that girl about the pavement. She is just ignorant. So sad how stupid people are. ANYWAY you need to take him to the vet. Next put some protective padding on his feet.

Was it hot pavement? Maybe he got blisters and the blisters broke open. Poor puppy. I got blisters on the soles of my feet walking 2 blocks on blacktop and it wasn't really exceptionally hot outside but the blacktop just absorbs all the heat and burns ya.

First of all. Stop abusing your dog having him run on pavement. dogs feet are not made for pavement. plus there is glass and dirt on the roads. You need to clean them in water peroxide and neosporing bandage them and change the bandage daily. Look for pus or fever in the pad . You can also buy him padded boots. run him in a park or treadmill and be humane. try something called vet-rap- it is usually used for horses or any slef sticking bandages and gauze.
