I am just wondering what the point is of life imprisonment without the chance of parole. I mean, it appears to be torture, if a person did something that bad then they should just be killed or something, or they should go to prison for 20 yrs and come back if they learned their lesson. But lifelong imprisonment.... its liek a punishment with no right to redeem oneself, as well as giving up on the person.

Well then Part 2:
Do you think that so called "sick people" should get off with just 10-20 years in "therapy". And finally, what should happen to John Odgren, 16 yr old with mental health issues who stabbed a 15 yr old... should he get life?

Some crimes do deserve the death sentence but if there is any doubt what so ever then a life sentence takes away the chance of killing an innocent person as has happened in the past. If there is no doubt then the death sentence saves a lot of money.

I think the point is that some people commit crimes that are so heinous that they deserved to be put away for life. I also think it sends a very powerful psychological message too; by sentencing someone to life without parole, you take away any hope that they will ever get out of prison. Sometime hope is all a person has, and if you can take that away, you've taken everything from them. I imagine subconsciously that has an impact on someone when they hear that gate closing behind them, knowing they will never leave.

Also some people who commit heinous crimes have no emotion so why care about how tough it will be on them. Additionally, one would be remiss to think that prison actually rehabilitates anyone.

It's an execution without death. Although it may not seem just to make taxpayers fund the living of these prisoners, it is a possibility that the cases against these prisoners were skewed or the conclusion was incorrect. In those cases, these prisoners could be released instead of an apology for a wrongly executed victim.

some people just never learn. It insures that a horrendous criminal would never even have the chance to do wrong to anyone, anywhere, again. I think it should only be used though, when there is proof or probable cause that the person will commit the offense again and if the offense is not a minor one. Sadly, this isn't the case. but it should only be used on some one with multiple major offenses, or some one with compromised mental stability, even after one offense, when its clear it will be continuous and the person won't learn.

hpe i helped! :)

It means this person cannot ever in his or her lifetime inter back into our society. If they don't want life move to Texas where the death penalty is active or better yet don't do crimes that ruin other peoples lives forever. They can redeem themselves in prison and help there. If they killed someone can that person be brought back to life??? Study some cases on the prisoners that are serving life with out parole.I don't think you would want them for your next door neighbor.

Most of the time when a person have life in prison it is usually because they took a life. Now your life is gone. I personally believe some are sorry for what they did and will not do it any more.

Prison isn't about rehabilitation anyway. It's about locking someone away so you don't have to deal with them anymore. Oftentimes these are people who have been railroaded by the legal system, so you've got many innocent people behind bars that were good people BEFORE going in.

Most people come out of prison worse than they were going in.

the idea must be that they will certainly learn to never do that crime again. Learn it good too. life in prison. At least, they know what they were accussed of and convicted for. unlike people found in other countries brought to shores of another country and held indefinitely by prison bosses with out knowing what their crime is.

A lot of criminals repeat their crimes after they are paroled. What that demonstrates is that the parol board can be wrong in their assessment of a prisoner.

Some crimes are so heinous that a person needs to be removed permanently from society.
