Don't you just bait the rod, throw it in and wait? Unless, figuring out how to NOT get drunk is considered strategy. Please explain.

You ever hear the saying "10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish"? The 10% are the ones who use all sorts of strategies -- the obvious ones, like where to fish, what bait or lure, how to work the bait or lure, when to change baits, how deep, what weight of line/leader, size of sinker...

It's the "bait the rod, throw it in and wait" people who make up a lot of the 90% who don't catch much.

(By the way, I bait a hook, not a rod, and though I've seen people throw their rods in, I've never tried it myself.)

It can be very strategic depending on how you do it. Most of the time my strategy is simple....use bait catch fish. If your serious though it can take a lot of strategy and not getting drunk does help.

Absolutely. It takes just as much strategy to consistently catch any type of fish as it does to hunt any type of animal. Both are wild creatures, wanting to avoid human contact at all costs. First you have to define which type of fish you want to go after, then you study the behavior of the fish, study what the water temperature has on the fish because fish are cold blooded creatures. The temperature of the water is the body temperature of the fish. Hot/warm water means active metabolism, cold water means slow metabolism. You should visit my website, www.bassfishingtipsresource.com and study about the bass. It will also give you insight as to how other fish might respond...

not really.
just depending on what bait you use
what size hook to use
how many weights to use
what line to use
where to fish (brook, stream, lake, etc...)
time of day

really just the obvious ones.

hmm.... perky shrimp or sluggish shrimp? What about that dead one? Cast it over here or over there or over there.... aaahhh *randomly lob bait into water* Sit in the sun or in the shade.... hmm... bank or boat.........

All kinds of strategy.

Oh, you mean real strategy? I don't fish that way.
