The Vatican refused to recognize Israel, citing its treatment of Palestinians, a desire not to offend Arab states with Christian minorities and a question of confiscated church property.
But once Israel began talking peace with its Arab neighbors the Vatican began to change its policy and finally recognized Israel in 1993.
Take care

some countries are just skeptical towards recongnizing an illegal state. It is a fact that they occupy land that belongs to the palestinians and the vatican tried to stand for what is right, but eventually they gave up under the pressure by the jews through out the world. There are however several countries that maintain their stand against having any relationship with the terrorist state.

It is my understanding that the existence of a Jewish country in Israel is anti-thetical to certain christian teachings, perhaps only of some groups, who use the Jewish exile as a proof that God forsook the Jews for the new Jews=christians. Certain groups cannot reconcile the Jewish Return with this belief. I would also point out that historically, the Vatican has never been good to the Jews. As recently as WW II elements in the Vatican were helping the Nazis. Not very respectable behavior from where I stand.

what is the Vatican, but a state in itself why would it want to recognise the country of our saviour as a state, they even declare our Christ is burried within the walls of the holly city
what is that but blasphemy the bible says clearly that he was entombed in a garden, there never has been gardens inside the walls, and if they are claiming its the grave of the Christ there is no such place,

Because they bought into the whole "peace process" idea, and were not afraid to upset the Arab world anymore.
We can see now what a great accomplishment that was.
