Married people get tax breaks that single people dont like twice the standard deduction. Sure there are 2 people in a marriage but they share as one.

the unfairness isn't so much in the standard deduction amount. it's that the tax rate is higher for single people than it is for those who are married. If you really have a problem with the standard deduction not being big enough for you, maybe you can think of other ways to increase your itemized deductions to take more advantage. Charitable contributions and mortgage interest are great ways to save in taxes owed.

The Single deductions are exactly half the Joint ones. The exemptions are half the Joint's exemptions. The tax brackets break at half the Joint's breaks.

Two people CANNOT live as cheaply as one in ALL aspects of life. Yes, 2 can share a roof. But share every meal? Share the bathroom? Nope. No can do.
