I was switched today from 4 mgs of Ativan to 6 mg of Klonopin three times a day for anxiety and panic attacks. I think that I have become immune to Ativan. They tried to put me on Paxil and all those other drugs, but a year from now they will have all these (heart attacks, strokes, etc), so when I go to the doctor, I tell them they gave me side effects because I dont want to use the "new drugs". Will this Klonopin cause me to have problems besides addiction? Does it bother your sex life? I had a choice between Klonopin and Xanax. Xanax makes me clumsy and I trip all the time. I need some feedback.

Thanks

Why do you think you will have heart attacks, strokes etc. from the newer medications? Look up the medications on Webmd.com I really think you will find the newer medications are safe and generally people do well with them.

Klonipin is a good medication, but just like the rest of the anti-anxiety meds they can be addicting if you take them to long. Like the rest of these drugs our body begins to change its tolerance of the drug and the doctor may have increase the dosage to have the same effect. Paxil is excellent for panic attacks and has a good record of working without feeling clumsy and tired from the anti-anxiety meds. If you don't like Paxil there are other good meds out there like Celexa, Effexor, Zoloft. Why not give them a try, you'll never know if they without trying them. Good luck to you.

PS Always be honest with you doctor so he can help you.

I became addicted to the Ativan very quickly so I was switched to Klonopin and I've been fine. The Ativan was fast acting but I would crash off of it when it wore off and I'd immediately need to take more. It was crazy. The Klonopin works so much better for me since I don't feel it 'kick in' and, since it's longer lasting, I don't ever feel that I crash. It's strange, but I don't feel I'm taking anything at all, I just feel 'normal' (meaning lower anxiety, no panic attacks). I don't have any side effects from the Klonopin but you seem to be taking a high amount so you may have side effects. (I only take about 1mg/day) My doctor actually told me that the Klonopin was somewhat stronger than the Ativan so I don't see why you'd need to take so much MORE. I take my Klonopin with Lexapro and haven't had any problems but everyone is different.

If your Dr. feels you need to start on an anti-depressant then do so. It is so worth any risk to be able to live your life on a daily basis. These side-effects that you see on Tv now have always been going on with almost any medication, we just never heard about them. Overall, these medications help you feel better. I went through 8 different medications while on Klonopin and finally found two that helped me to cope (along with seeing a counseler) and I actually do not use the Klonopin anymore. Klonopin kept me calm but I did feel like I was in a fog. I know it does not seem possible now, to ever feel not panicked, let the medications help you and take one day ata time.
