they let her go with a trespass, so no she was not prosecuted by that company so there is no further action that will be taken against her. they just took her info to process the trespass order to where she cant return to those stores for a certain perios of time. if she was going to be charge with a crimianl offense, they would have told her. plus, she probably would have gone to jail or at the least her mother would have had to pick her up at the store. point is....no criminal charges

Well this depends on how old she is, and where she stole. Some stores if you get caught they will let you go. But if you notice if there is a sign in the store that says you will be prosecuted if you shoplift means that they will press charges on you if you get caught. I don't think that will affect her going to college in anyway, but if she did get arrested, if it goes on her record then it might affect her getting certain jobs. If she didn't leave in handcuffs then she shouldn't worry about it. If they just gave her tresspassing citation then she got of lucky... but if she does go back and they recognize her then she can get arrested for criminal tresspassing definetly. She's lucky her story worked out in Canada, because if she was on the other side of the border, she would've been looking at a jail cell. And don't forget she's in another country, so there's different laws and punishments. But other than that, sounds like she's in the clear.

If they don't ask, they won't check. This incident will not prevent her from attending a University, but she may not get into her first choice school. Also, it may affect her getting a job after college if the incident is on her criminal record. In the US, a child's criminal record is sealed when the child turns 18. Generally, crimes committed before the person's 18th birthday are not reported on criminal reports.

First this will not be a criminal offense since she did not go to court, it was handled without a trial or a conviction, so there is no criminal record to show up

Typically, if they say they don't ask for background checks, they usually don't. Many jobs later on in life do ask for a background check, so that may be a problem for her.
