Why is it when someone asks a question in this category that asks something that questions religeous beliefs they are yelled at for being mean, stupid, illogical, trying to cause trouble, or bashing others? But when a religeous person questions a non believers reason for not believing then they are just curious, not being mean, not pushing their religion on anyone, just asking etc etc.
And why is it when we give an answer it is automatically put down because "that just doesn't make sense". Why ask the question if you don't really want to know - don't ask!!! Just say ok i am saying this is my opinion & i just want someone to agree with me. Wouldn't that be more correct?
Personally on this one i don't care if you agree with me or not, but i would like an honest answer not just quoting scripture cause you can't take the time to come up with how "you" feel. Or just saying cause believers are stupid or illogical or any of the things they say to us when we question them.

i think i should point out that i don't think people who do believe are stupid or wrong - i just don't happen to agree with all they believe! And it angers me just as much when atheists/agnostics start bashing people. Maybe because i am sensitive i see people similar to me being bashed more - but don't think i don't see when others are bashed as well. Both are equally wrong.

Yeah, I can understand what you are saying, and I am probably guilty of getting a little over defensive myself. I don't mind when someone has a genuine question, but when someone is just insulting my God, or the scriptures that I consider holy, I get mad. It's fine if you don't believe the same thing as me, just don't insult me and insinuate that I am ignorant because I believe in it. It seems like there are SO many people out there who just want to make everyone else seem inferior to them. I hope this answers your question. :)

You are right - there is a fair amount of this sort of thing happening. Unfortunately, after a period of time it gets tough to tell who is serious and who isn't. I don't want to excuse us "religious types" who do the kinds of things you accuse of, it's just an unfortunate fact that some of us are tactless, uneducated witless and mean spirited. Me too sometimes!
There seems to be this expectation, at least of Christians, that if someone professes to be a Christian that he or she should now be some sort of super human or else the whole thing must be a sham. Is that fair? I am sorry on behalf of those who lack the sensibility to know when they are being offensive, and if I am being offensive, I hope you will forgive me. I am often too blunt, but probably sound like a bit of a milktoast right now...

To oversimplify, I think it's because being a 'believer' in something means you are a part of a category, and being a 'nonbeliever' means you sidestepped the categories. Someone questioning you category makes you angry, but there is no category to question when you're talking about 'nonbelievers'. You just want to know what it's like to have sidestepped the categories altogether.
Plus when you're questioning a religious belief, people aren't happy with this because it means you're questioning what they have put faith into.

Ok, here's the deal it doesn't matter what your beliefs are, in this forum some people will put you down no matter what you ask or what you respond. Some people just sit at home and wait for the chance to say something mean and unhelpful. Thats just the way of some people.

I agree with you. Of course, the theists will be all over me for doing so.
Hatred motivates people. It makes them feel alive.
I never get offended when intelligent people question my beliefs. I consider it an opportunity to exchange ideas. There is never anything wrong with a question.
By the way, I'm an atheist.

The image that you are projecting of these religionist is that of being very biased and forgiving of themselves.
I think the problem arises because most bible people merely memorize information attached to the scriptures and may not understand their belief, so when a question is asked outside the memorized response they resort to such tat ices. In other words they are not used to dealing with thinking people.
Its only fair to look at the other end when a question is asked. If it is discerned that its design is for mischief then...

In a world where every single person is unique, doubtless everyone will think something different, and some don't like others thinking differently.

I'm getting really tired of trying to answer these religious people. I've been there, done that, read the Bible, .....I'm always polite, even though they often are not. I can quote with the best of them, but it doesn't work, because as you said, they won't think for themselves. They have been fed parts of the bible.
