Because the advertisers pay the network to run the commercials during any televised events. Without those commercials, How would the station make there money? If it wasn't for those commercials that we all love to hate, we wouldn't have that channel on to watch anything, like the NASCAR race.

Fox doesnt seem to be as bad, but NBC was horrid with commercials.
But you do have to remember though, the money invested in NASCAR now by the networks might require a few extra commercials. This isnt 1995 with the races on 5 different stations, with the only highly rated race being at Daytona. Then, CBS/TNN, ABC/ESPN, and TBS didnt have to pay that much, and the demand wasnt there to command the cash that the networks put up today for a NASCAR race.
TNN though from what I heard is gonna broadcast the Pepsi 400 later this year commercial free.

You hit the nail on the head. Companies need to make money. Also, it costs quite a bit to televise a race. The companies want to make sure people know they are part of NASCAR. Not all cars are shown all the time, so, by airing a companies commercial, it is guaranteed that the product will be seen. A lot of fans are very loyal to their driver, so they will buy whatever is on his car. The companies know this, so, the more they advertise, the more they will sell.

i'm sufficiently previous to remember while there grow to be easily no television commercials interrupting the races. for sure, there grow to be no races on television the two. purely an occasional 15 minute recap of a few activities on ABC's extensive worldwide of activities, sandwiched between comments on issues like "curling" and "Roman Greco wrestling". i do no longer suggestions the commercials while the thoughts are no longer any televised races or pay-consistent with-view races.

I don't mind commercial breaks. I like some of the commercials. Like the ones with Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, and Denny Hamlin. :)

products on the car is merely integrated marketing. commercials are are a result of viewer ratings, (which for NASCAR are down compared to 2 years ago). keep in mind, TV not exists because of content - but because of advertising. in a world of increasing media choices (tv, internet, ipods, etc.), companies are continuously seeking and paying big money to get infront of you - in this case - NASCAR.

Because the races would be on pay for view otherwise. The sponsors on the car, pay for that particular car. The don't pay for the broadcast of the event.

So we don't have to pay for pay-per-view to watch the races.
Jayski.com breaks down the times and how much was racing and how much was commercials.
That's all I have to say about that.
