Is it okay for a sandbox? What else?

A sandbox is great but be careful to watch for ringworms if there are any cats in the area. My daughter played in the sandbox at daycare and kept ringworms. The doctor finally told me to keep her out of it for awhile so the medication could kill them. Other fun things you could do: get a butterfly net and catch butterflies, also lots of 1 to 2 year olds love to catch and explore different bugs, like catterpillars and grasshoppers. You can find cute little bug catching kits in toy departments at Target and Wal-Mart. Sprinklers are fun when warm weather arrives and plastic swimming pools are fun. Kids love playing with bubbles and there are so many new varieties of bubble blowing kits and bubble guns that blow millions of bubbles. This is a good time of year for their first kite, too. If you have a sandbox you can build sandcastles in it. These are just a few of the things that my kids liked doing when they were that age. They loved being outside, so anything they could do outside was cool. They mostly enjoyed exploring all the things around our yard, like flowers, bugs and things like that. And, of course, they wouldn't be a NORMAL child if they didn't like playing in the dirt or mud and make mudpies. I hope these ideas have been helpful.

Sure any little child would like a sandbox to make sand castles, fill buckets etc. Might be a little messy, but should be fine with supervision. Also maybe a little swing you can hang from a tree to push the baby, blow bubbles, throw a ball around.

If you use a sandbox make sure its clean, covered and has new (store bought) sand. If cats use your sandbox as a litterbox it can expose your child to toxoplasmosis. Let the baby walk on the grass and touch the trees and flowers. You could also take pictures and let him/her help choose the subjects.

Sandbox is good. Some other things are bubbles, a big ball to kick and roll around. Also a swing set or a slide, my girls at that age could swing forever, also loved sliding down a slide. Also for when it is warmer a little pool or sprinkle is always fun1

If I put my one year old in a sand box he would eat the sand LOL he is nutty but when we go outside I just let him find his own entertainment I follow him wherever he goes but I let him play with whatever he find rake broom rocks whatever that keeps him pretty occupied but I was wondering the same thing about a sandbox I hope that helps !

Make sure you cover the sandbox when it is not in use. Friendly neighborhood pets enjoy doing their duty in them, it's like a luxury litter box ! You don't want your baby playing with that stuff!

sandbox sounds ok - with beach bucket & shovel maybe
if you have a table of somewhere you could do art
projects like coloring or painting (if you don't mind the
clean up afterwards)
maybe get a ball to roll back and forth

A sandbox, kiddie pool and battery operated bubble machine kept my daughter at 18months endlessly entertained last summer. She also had her own little bucket and watering can to help me with flower watering.

A sandbox is fine but make sure you are with the child. Also one of those kiddie pools is fun. My kids loved their little pools with the built-in slides. Also bubble blowing is fun. You can blow and the child can blow.

For my 18 month old I have her cozy coupe (car), balls, lawn mower, trike, sandbox and a kangaroo climber (slide with door and climbing structure). She loves them all but her favorite is putting the balls in and out of wagon and tonka trucks.
