Not so much because they could have a heart attack but more because they are completely asleep when they are walking around, and if you were to wake them they would most likely get very disoriented and possibly voilent because they don't know what is going on.
I knew someone in high school who had a brother that would sleep walk and one night he woke up and found his brother standing over his bed with a butcher knife and his brother was completely asleep. So how he got his parents and they had to coax the knife out of his brothers hand while he was still asleep, they were afraid that if he woke up he would be disoriented and stab them.

The only sleepwalkers I've encountered are my own children and myself as a child. All I do is guide my kids back to their beds and settle them back to sleep to save any injury. It is rare for them to sleepwalk. I came out of a sleepwalking episode as a child and remember looking around at some guests my parents had over for a party. I wasn't startled or anything but just came to and then was ushered back to bed. No biggy.

No, it's not true. However, it is dangerous to the sleepwalker if they continue walking, because they might fall down the stairs.

I don't think they WOULD wake up.
I tried waking someone up that was sleepwalking.
They just ignored me even if iw as screaming in their ears.
but what WOULD happen to them if they DO wake up?

Yes, it is true. Only if they are about to hurt themselves, then you can guide them gently, and they will continue to dream.
