Luvv2rock: I hear you! I've been agnostic/atheist most of my life and that has always been my big rallying cry. You're not going to like my answer. The fact is there's no way to prove God exists. That's why you hear religion referred to as faith. A Christian, or Muslim, or a worshipper of whatever God you're talking about just has to believe (or have faith) that there is something out there greater than him/herself.

A few years ago I "sold out." I became a Christian. I'm trying to say this in a way that doesn't freak you out, because I know this kind of talk always used to freak me out. Now, I'm sold out for Christ. Here's a quote that will give you a little bit of why, but there's much more to it. It's just something to think about... "I would rather live my life as if there is a God only to find out there isn't, than to live my life as is if there is no God only to find out there is."

The bottom line is, what do you have to lose by believing? Nothing really. Asking Christ to hang with me has done nothing but bring incredible blessings to my life - not that there aren't hard times, but the great thing is, when the hard times arrive, I am not alone. I have a friend with me to help me walk through them. I'm never alone.

Okay, if I haven't freaked you out yet and you're still reading, I'm glad. Just to clarify - I'm not forcing this on you, and anyone who is really walking hand in hand with Christ will not. It is a very personal decision. It's really nobody's business but your's and God's. Here's a book (actually I have it on CD) that I would recommend for you to check out. It will answer a lot of questions. It's called "Dinner with a Perfect Stranger" by David Gregory. It's this man invited to dinner by none other than Jesus. Sounds a little hokey, but he really asks some hard hitting questions. Some of the answers you might buy, others you might not, and that's okay.

Another good book is "How Good is Good Enough?" by Andy Stanley. It talks about how you can't get to heaven by doing good things (like most people think - including me at one time). That is, if you believe in heaven.

If you'd like to take this off-line, I'd be happy to answer any questions as best I can. Your question alone gives me "faith" that you're searching. That's a good thing. Which ever direction your questions take you, know that there is one person out here praying for you.

-I was where you are. By the way, Stella-bear is my dog's nickname, not some cutesy stuffed bear.

well,I guess the best I can do is:

The odds of life arising by chance are so
incalculable,I don't know how to matehmatically
write it something to the something power;
first law of thermodynamics: you don't get
order from chaos, whether you like it or not, or
believe it or not, THERE is a superior force
out there and at work. There was a book written
by a minister many years ago, called:
Tying Down the Sun, and he explains, in pretty
simple language the creation process. His name
was George Vandeman, I don't know if he is still
on this side of life; do some more reaserch.
I have given you, as a Christian lady, an honest
and 'fair' answer; may God guide you (:

Your question makes no sense. Of course there is no proof. Faith is the basis of religion, not logic or evidence. If you could prove the existence or nonexistence of a god, there would be no point to religions in general. And no, not all atheists believe religions have no point. I think they give meaning and comfort to people and I'm an atheist.

OK, here are two.

First--
(1) Everything that exists contingently has a reason for its existence.
(2) The universe exists contingently.
Therefore:
(3) The universe has a reason for its existence.
(4) If the universe has a reason for its existence then that reason is God.
Therefore:
(5) God exists.

Second-- (requires a bit more thought)
(1) There are now things existing and things explaining their existence.
(2) If there are now things existing and things explaining their existence, and each thing that explains something else completely explains it if and only if it is itself explained by something else, then its complete explanation is infinitely long.
Therefore:
(3) If each thing that explains something else completely explains it only if it is itself explained by something else, then its complete explanation is infinitely long.
(4) However, no complete explanation can be infinitely long.
Therefore:
(5) There is something that completely explains other things and is not explained by anything else, that is, there is something that is the ultimate explanation of things, namely, God.

OK, so, now you have a number of responses. What is it you want to say?

that chair you're sitting on came by chance it has no creator it's just al of a sudden was there. true or not. obviously not. if the chair had to have had a creator and chairs are really simple things than how can something so complex as the human being, come to earth by chance the whole universe for that matter.
one more thing you have no brain cause i cant see it. once agian obviously you have a brain. so there is a God even if we dont see him

Hi...I usually don't arrive here at the R & S section too often....it's difficult to read negative questions and answers. But, I saw yours and thought I'd respond. I can only offer a short story on what happened to me some time back. On a summer evening, I was sitting on my front porch and looking up at the stars. I was feeling as you are now...I said, "God prove you are there...I need you to make it real...I am feeling really low". After a brief time I continued, "God, if you are there and you ARE REAL,(HERE COMES THE TEST), I need you to show me a brilliant shooting star across this summer sky and I would like to see it right here and right now". (I will add that I am not a crazy person...I have done nursing for many years and am well educated in the field of nursing science)
I had my head lowered and for awhile I was afraid to raise my head to look, but, at the very instant I looked up at the night sky....there was a huge, brilliant and beautiful shooting star right in front of my eyes that went clear across the visual sky! Now, this was proof enough for me and I have not regretted my belief in God...He has shown me many times, on a personal level and with others, just how Alive He really is...I accept Him and believe in Him...it has been shown to me...Please visit my 360 page if you'd like...there's a bit more there to read.

Prove He doesn't exhist :)

Someone can not make you believe in God. I see God in the daily miracles of life. I work with the developmentally & physically disabled and the mentally ill, I see what can go wrong with the human mind & body...one can not convince me that humans "just happened"....one little thing goes wrong at conception...BOOM downs syndrome...let someone be deprived of oxygen for too long...BANG brain damage...let a pregnant woman have too little folic acid in her sytem...spina bifida or worse, anecephlia. It is only a true miracle that there are some many healthy people in this world.

I could go on and on...but if you do not want to see God in this world than you won't.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

Simple. He is The Other.

The most evident thing in this world is that nothing creates itself. A person does not create themselves, a father does not create himself, a tree does not create itself, etc. For all things in this natural world, there must be some sort of a cause. Things in nature are not simply "there" or "are". It must have an origin. As things are not their own creator, they must have a source, and ultimately the only source for this is a Supreme Being who transcends nature. Being supernatural, he is not bound by the laws of nature, meaning he COULD simply exist, he doesn't need an origin like the things of the natural world because he is not natural of this world. Simple logic. Things in nature can't simply exist or be self-created.

The sun that shines every morning.
The light in the eyes of a newborn.
The crash of the waves of the ocean.
The flowers that bloom every spring.
The sound of a cat purring.
The sound of your heart beating.
The fact that the there is nothing we can do that will stop Him from loving us.
The miracle of every single new day.
The proof of God is in every living thing. He is the very definition of love. Without Him, there would be nothing. Open your heart, not just your eyes. Listen, He's knocking on the door of your heart. Or you would not have asked this question.
