I support "don't ask, don't tell" because after speaking with various military personnel, I feel that the military (and arguably society in general) is not yet ready for an open policy. I'd ideally like to see an armed force that is blind to sexual orientation (as well as race, religion, you get the idea).
But many of those that I spoke with in the military (and civilian) expressed a dislike and discrimination against homosexual soldiers for whatever reason. I believe homosexuals can perform their duties and responsibilities just as efficiently and effectively as heterosexuals.
If I were gay and wanted to join the military, I would support any policy where my sexual orientation in an organization consisting of people with such animosity towards me should not be known. If there were no "don't ask, don't tell" policy, I would be forced to either lie to those charged with my life on the battlefield or have to fear for my own life off the battlefield, neither of which is a healthy environment for building camaraderie and trust among fellow soldiers.

Interestingly enough this was part of a case people ran in High School debate. If you look at it logically it can seemingly have positive and negative results if it were removed. While more homosexuals might join the military because they wouldn't have to be concerned with Dishonorable Discharge (essentially ruining the rest of their life) at the same time more straight men might leave the military because they are uncomfortable with it. In my opinion I believe that the military should keep the DADT policy.

I can tell you by experience, we do not want to know...if we did they would be treated very differently...not everybody accepts homosexuals...the older you get you begin not to care as much, especially when you do not live in the barracks any more...but as a young soldier we gave them hell, (well gay men..) they do not usually bond as well with the other males...what do straight men have in common with gay men? Nothing...if you never have been in the military it is very easy to say, oh sexual orientation shouldn't matter...but when you are young, dumb, and full of ...well you know...you have one thing on your mind...women...on the other hand lesbians are for the most part good soldiers...so don't ask don't tell works..because I don't run around saying, "...hey I love women..." 9 times out of 10 we don't talk about sex...except when you are a young soldier...the military is all about bonding...I can tell you being in a co-ed unit is a whole lot different than being in a all male...Infantry and such types units usually have higher moral than say a Combat Support Hospital...just the facts..I could care less if gays are in the military or not, just don't try to force yourself on me...

the reason in the back of the uniforms and all that's via the fact they replace into aspects of the U. S. military. they are all meant to look a similar. They eliminate their hair do, they provide them a similar glasses(a minimum of they used to.). and that they dress them each and each of a similar. They dont want those nails in the team sticking up greater than the others. So no i think of they should not be overtly allowed to. I dont want distractions occurring because of the fact it would desire to get my friends or family contributors killed because of the fact of it. i think of human beings would desire to do purely their job. If somebody ASKS in the event that they are gay, specific why not tell him. yet do not enable them to pass around turning their military fatigues into daisy dukes or anythign like that(of course no you're able to try this yet you get what factor im attempting to make)

Although I'm not in the military, I think its a good way to address the issue of sexual orientation. It should not be an issue for anyone. Alexander the Great sure made good use of his all male homosexual army.

I like it. I think it should be a universal policy because I don't need to know anyone's sexual orientation. Keep your personal life personal.

That is the whole thing dont ask dont tell, I dont believe that anyone should have to hide who they are, but I did sit and speak with some soldiers and they dont want to know the truth.. They want to know that they are behind them 100%... but do not want to know the truth about this..

It shouldn't be an issue. Sexual orientation does not dictate a soldiers skill or ability.
