I'm 20 and I'm noticing that a lot of people from my graduating class are starting to marry. The number of marriages from 18-21 seem to be increasing quite a bit. Has anyone else noticed this trend? I find this suprising because now that people are living longer it seems like people would be getting married later.

I think people are getting married later, or not at all.

I don't know. I think it depends where you live as well. I work in Manhattan and bunch of my friends are starting to get married and they are in their early 30's. But back in my hometown of Pittsburgh, most of my high school classmates married between 22-25. I will be 26 when we marry, but I would have never been ready to marry when I was 18-21. I was way too immature and only concerned with myself and what I was going to do on a Saturday night. I'm glad that I waited!

Location seems to have a lot to do with this. Where I live, women are waiting to finish their post-secondary education, and start their careers, so it seems to be in the 26-30 range for both men and women. Women are finally (!) learning that it's not smart to just shack up with a guy and hope that he eventually asks her to marry him. They are waiting for maturity, and those marriages last longer and are stronger. What a great trend!
However, there will always be those marrying around the earlier range you mentioned - usually girls who don't want a further education or profession, and are just in the work-a-day world.

I have a neighbor whose daughter is almost 19 and will be marrying in June, barely a month after her high school grad. The girl says that a lot of others in her class are doing it too.
As someone who married young and is now divorced at 27, I don't think these kids are looking at the long term effects and stresses. And when you add kids to the mix it just gets worse if it ends.

It definitely depends on your location. I went to a high school out in the country and most of my peers were married by 24 or 25. However, I went to college with mainly out-of-staters and only a few of my college friends have gotten married. I'll be 29 on my wedding day.

I am NY metro area too, my husband and I always find that when people ask how long we've been married we get the head snap of "really?" People are very surprised. It will even get worse as you have kids and realize that most of the moms that have kids that are your kids age will be well into their 30s(even 40s) and they arent even these women's youngest kids. I have always been the youngest mom, and my kids are usually older than theirs. I was 22 and my husband 23 when we married.

That happends alot in many diffrent places it all depends on where you live. Are you wanting to get married? Is that why you are asking? If so 20 isn't a bad age to get married.

It's not the same for me, I see people waiting forever to get married. I think it's better to get into it all the way early and enjoy.

I guess it depends where you are from. We had 7 weddings in 2006 (one was ours) and all the couples were over 25 years old.
