I have heard it said a million times on here believing in God is a leap of faith and people who have logic have no faith, they cannot see past what is real and is in front of them, so what does that mean you have to be moronic to make this leap of faith? I didn't say this actually a christian did, explain this to me? I have faith in things I think could possibly happen like winning a million dollars, so why can I not have faith in GOD.... you say it could possibly happen........I am not judging or insulting, I really want to know.............do not say my heart is cold and unaccepting and its The Devil because this is not so, I truly am trying to make sense of it all and every time I do I have to be honest I move farther and farther away from beleiving instead of moving closer to GOD............my leap of faith seems to be faith in the fact that its all a bunch of rubbish and I am wasting my time.

To start, why do you believe that 1 + 1 = 2 ?
I hope it's not because someone told you.

The right answer is that you believe so because it makes sense and because you've thought through it.
You've thought about the possible alternatives and you've thought about why it could be true.
You thought about it with no bias to either side.
It makes sense that two apples can be gotten from adding an apple to another.

It makes sense that 3 X 3 = 9, because three crates, each with three bottles of milk in it, hold, altogether, 9 bottles of milk.

You believe these things, because you have thought through them.

That is how Religion should be.

If you don't have doubt in your mind then you're stupid. In one of the Holy books, it says that true faith isn't accepting everything, but questioning everything until you're sure that you've got it right.

A true Jew, Christian, Muslims, or just plain believer, is one who constantly argues it over in his or her head and thinks that there is God, that he is omni-everything. All powerful, all knowing, etc.

You're an idiot if you say that people who believe a certain thing
(about how humans came to be or about God, etc.)
are wrong.

You don't know anybody or anything to be wrong, but you just believe what seems right because of reason.

God said ____. Does that make sense? Hmmmmm. Yeah it does, or not right now it doesn't, but could it?

#1 No we are not required to believe in God and not exactly know or understand what we believe.

#2 If we were, then that would be a very good definition of extremisim

#3 it isn't wrong to question the ways of God. By questioning, you can try to reason out the true purpose of everything. Why we are given holy books, etc. All of that only increases your faith.

#4 look it up. just look it up, and see that God has told you to question.

Don't forget that whatever book you're reading, you're probably reading a translation.

A leap of faith could be eating in a restaurant where you can't see the kitchen. How do we know the favourite food places don't have poor hygiene? A lot people come to faith in God when they're at the end of their rope with life circumstances and the last resort is to pray and ask God what to do next. God is a gentleman and will not force himself on anyone but when we on purposely seek after him he has this cool way of revealing himself. Maybe it's through answered prayer or changes in our own attitude. Maybe you'll have a leap of faith in a life or death situation and pray a prayer such as "God help me." That's quite common.

Faith is not just taking a deep breath and saying "ok I'm gonna believe in X Y or Z."

Faith is actually a gift from God and it's something you definitely want to ask for. We ask for it because we know we need it - we are fallen human beings and tend to move away from what is good.

Reason goes along with faith, too (ever read Thomas Aquinas?). Reason sheds "light" on our faith. The mind understand what the heart accepts.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Can't have what you don't believe in, if you have what you believe in , then it is no longer faith, instead you have substance, you have hope , which is the evidence of the substance of faith.
