There are areas of the economy that can't afford to pay Americans high wages for low skilled jobs.
A guest worker program would allow for poor people from other countries to come and fill those kind of jobs

What makes you think that there ever could be a "temporary worker program" when it is clear that the system is over burdened with the system that we have now?

Have you not heard of the backlog of paperwork that they already have?

There is also the point that what looks like 'cheap' isn't. When considering the burden that it places upon our public systems - schools, hospitals, welfare programs, subsidized housing - not to mention the problem of children born here of parents that have no loyalty to this country at all - - there are some MASSIVE hurdles to be overcome before such should ever be considered. Massive controls and protection would have to be in place.

Then there is the reality of "temporary worker progam" for jobs such as high tech jobs, nurses, doctors, teachers, etc. You honestly think that there are not people that are citizens that can fill these jobs?

Also - what about the poor people from our OWN country? Do you have any concept of how many people are without jobs that are citizens? What about jobs for teens?

Let me put it this way. When you know of towns that have citizens that are so desperate for jobs that they have lines to apply at Wal-Mart - people with degrees, college students, people over 40 years of age that all of a sudden can't get hired - sure sign that life as some like to suggest that it is within America and that want to suggest such need to get out from wherever they/you are under and see what many within this country are facing.

Yes. We would know who is in our country and control the numbers. They are already here, we just don't know where and how many.

Can't afford to pay Americans a higher wage so we can afford to pay foreign workers less? Look again. Business will find a way to not afford you once they figure out a way to replace you with a couple of foreign workers. A lot of semi-skilled jobs have been taken from American workers and given to illegals. At least with a system in place we will know what's what. Also guest workers will have rights and probably earn more than illegals. That will help Americans regain some of the jobs they have lost. Business won't like this so they will be against a guest worker program. A provision should be in place that excludes the children born of guest workers from getting U.S. citizenship.

NO, I agree with the earlier post. We need to rid this country of ALL Illegals and seal the borders for real with the army with shoot upon entering orders and then maybe start discussing options that would be of benefit to all and empty our emergency rooms and schools so, Americans can be treated and taught in English! I am not a racist but I brought a foreign wife to this country(LEGALLY) and it wasn't easy but I get really angry at the way our country has just accepted illegals as the norm. It's not fair on those that have done it the right way. We don't need to spend billions on a wall. Bullets are cheap and fence cutters don't work real well on them.
And, yes I'm sure this will be pulled but is not intended to be racist in any way.

We have to pay more for those services, so our workers can make enough NOT to be on aid. Otherwise WE are paying for the worker's poverty level wage through our taxes. Also, our schools are failing under the current burden and hospitals are closing from too many too poor to pay taxes to cover their costs as it is. We can't take more.

PS, if you are talking about agriculture, I understand it is an anomaly in this labor expensive country. However, since we cannot afford to be dependent on foreign food as we are on foreign oil and are becoming on foreign manufacturing, I suggest we raise the subsidies to pay for a legal, above poverty level work force. I frankly think we'd make up the cost in unused social services, anyhow.

Besides I haven't seen a truly 'TEMPORARY' program yet, and with all the visa overstayers we have, what would change to make these leave?

We already have a guest worker program. It is called the H visa! Look it up. It is used by thousands and thousands of people every year. Politicans are lying to you all and you are buying it!

Yes, I sure do. As a part of the program I'd require the employer to pay 100% of all medical and other social costs associated with their temp workers.

Thanks for asking.

no! no! NO! if in this country we have zero unemployment rate then we should and must even invite them to be immigrants and work but we still have close to 6% of our employable people that is not working, lets give them jobs and decent pay before all this shenanigans of temporary work programs, it about time we worry first about our legal immigrants and citizens before those who broke the law and still breaking the law, let catch them and send them back where they come from and wait for their time legally to come back to these place come hell or high water.

NO we need to seal our borders and send the illegals to their countries of origin. Then we can talk about a temporary worker program.

Yes I favor a temporary worker program. I also think that we need to be more adament about sending them back once their visa's have expired or the jobs they came to fulfill are done. This is the problem that needs to be addressed is the enforcement of the policies that already exist.

As long as they follow the rules to get into our country. If they get a valid green card. Not if we change the rules for a few to allow those who have not respected our laws and come here unlawfully.
