it says that your family will be security checked as well and that it is strongly recommended that I advise them that they will be secruity checked also. But I don't get on with my family and I don't want them to know where i am, will they find out where I am if they get extensively security checked

I would suggest that this question is asked to your recruiting department instead of (with respect) a group of people who may not know the right answer.

I would suggest that there would be no way of your family knowing that checks were being done on them. The Police certainly wouldn't tell them as that in itself would probably constitute an offence under data protection.

My only advice is to be as honest as you can about your own and your family's history. Better the information comes from you than them finding out something you didn't tell them because that would go against you as it questions your integrity.

I would also suggest discussing this with the Police anyway and tell them that you can only give information that is accurate as far as you are aware. If you don't see or speak to your family, then they may have done something that you're not aware of that you wouldn't knowing be disclosing.
Good luck with the application.

How would they find out that the police have done a check on them???
The check searches a database to look at criminal intention, or behaviour of those people named as part of your family.
They will not actually know that the police have looked at their data.. but they can request to see what information is held on them (data protection laws)
The police staff don't send them any kind of letter or anything, they purely look on a database.

Hope that answers your question.
Good luck with your application, and training

EDIT: As far as I know NO they won't find information out about where you are. The police just look on a database... they don't ADD your details and address to the database.. if you are really unsure, i would advise you contacting the Human Resources Dept, and speaking to them...

Your family will be vetted but they will not be contacted at all. You either pass or fail vetting, it is not done by personal contact but by record checking.

It is very possible, since someone may go out and talk to them about things, In doing so they will explain why they are being questioned.
