to serious questions - that bear no resemblance to how the christian religion opperates in the real world? Do they believe what the "want" to believe or what they are "told" to believe?

Is there any truth in their (admittedly) wonderfully phrased replies, or is it just basically all just a massive self induldgent free form - jazz -exploration of the english language?

Thomas..
Please come to the chapter where they tell you about the dangers of "spotting strawmen everywhere".

Cheers.

Well I am a Christian and I am not TOLD to do anything.
In fact quite the contrary. I was quite a rebel against all authority for a long time and to be honest reallly really researched my faith. I am a believer today against all odds.
I was saved at 8 years old but I bucked the whole thing for a long time after, however, the only thing that made sense. At 8 years old I had faith, at 14, 16, I lost it. Then I started to grow up and have some humility and keep learning more about that everyday.... it's taken quite a while since I was 8 to now I am 36... but in the bible it took those guys quite a while too. So... it may take you a while.... that's why I try not to answer too rudely

However you see the answers here from Christians, romanticised I can live with but it's all people's truths and real life answers on my part. I always speak the truth no matter what anyone will think of me.

Blanket statements such as this are what is known in rhetoric as "strawmen." This is the practice of erecting a ridiculous position which is not actually held by your oponent for the sole purpose of knocking it down.

Many of the respondents so far have demonstrated nothing more than a gleeful desire to make uninformed remarks in support of your supposedly reasonable question.

I have seen a large number of very badly answered questions, both from a logical as well as a grammatical point, so I am at a loss as to what you are driving at. What exactly do you call a romanticized answer? Give a specific critique of a specific answer and ask about it, but broad sweeping statements show a lack of thought on your part.

The answers you received comes from within a person - it is not what we "want" to believe or are "told" to believe but what we have discovered to be truth from a living, loving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The only way you can find out if there is any "Truth" in our wonderfully phrased replies is to "taste and see" for yourself. In the Bible, it is written, "Taste and see that the Lord is good..." and I believe that if you sincerely seek after truth, God will reveal Himself to you.

Mind you, I am not talking here about just another religion but a relationship with a living God!

What they are taught.

You don't really begin to know who indoctrinated you are into Christianity until you try and leave. I'm not talking about extreme fundamentalist type of religion - just basic Christianity.

You are taught so many things - base your knowledge on what Paul says, and never, never really read anything that's outside of this. You never truly examine all of Paul's claims. You never read the OT outside of Christian influence to see what it really says.

I belive what I believe because I had faith and I believed and now I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that it is real and that god exists and He is alive and present in each and every one of the lives of His children. I believe what I "want" to believe, which is a lot of what I am told, if you are not a Christian you cannot usually understand.

Most of what humans say is far too similar to the barking of dogs and parrots. Especially in religion and government.

Jesus said: I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me.
