I do! LA is such a cool place for young people! (Don't believe the haters!) I've lived here all my life and it's great. I've traveled a bit too, so I've had an opportunity to compare to other big cities. There's always new things to see and explore in LA. It's huge, so there's always plenty to do. Lots of culture, restaurants, bars, etc....

Good places to live for young people.... I'd say Los Feliz, Silverlake, Ealge Rock, Palms... to name a few....

Ah, i see the LA bashers are out in force.

First of all LA, can't be all bad, otherwise a billion people wouldn't live here.

Yes, LA is expensive in some respects. Housing, gas, traffic, insurance. This is the price for having one billion residents.

Luisa's story is an aberration. Many cities including LA have rent control so you're rent can't go up more than once a year. If she paid $600.00 a month, she must live in a really questionably neighborhood. Furthermore, most apartments I've seen have a/c as well as a parking space. I avoid high electric bills by running several fans on all but the hottest days.

I would agree with the poster who said you shouldn't come here without a way to make a living. Unless you are independently wealthy. Expenses are so high, that you won't be able to afford to pay for any of the fun things there are too do here.

The reality is, if it's weren't for the weather, no one would live here. Don't be surprised if you are sadly disappointed.

I do!! Born and raised LA girl! I love it! I could never imagine living anywhere else. the weather is beautiful, its funny, when it rains once the news ppl always have the flash flood warning on the screen. its pretty funny. But yea LA has great clubs and beaches all close by. I live in so cal, down near Long Beach. I would definitely recommend coming here. The only thing that sucks is the prices of houses and apartments. I live in a one bedroom, small apartment and it cost me 900.. Just make sure you have a good job and are able to support yourself.. you might want to just visit it and see what u think first. Its not the place for everyone.

Don't do it! LA is yucky. Tons of smog, impossible traffic, sky-high rent, horrible people, etc.

Here's my case. I've been here for 9 months. My rent has gone up three times - from $600 to $750. My car insurance has gone up twice, 20% increase overall, and I have a perfect driving record. Gas is $3.27 per gallon and rising. Utilities come to $150 per month (not counting phone), and you have to rent a fridge separately from the apartment. Most places don't have AC. My apartment that did have AC left us with a $300 bill EVERY month. Most apartments do not come with parking spaces, leaving you screwed to park a mile away if you get home after 6 pm. Criminals lurk in many neighborhoods and have recently started attacting people walking home from where they park. You have to pay to park everywhere, too, including the malls, many grocery stores, the beach and even the public library!!

It's so not worth it. Try Austin, TX, Boise, ID or Denver, CO instead.

P.S. I have a Master's degree and have been gainfully employed the entire time here . . .

Do not come here with out education and a profession because the cost of living is very high and you will end up living in a dump or on the street. Education will allow you to scratch and crawl your way up to the middle.

I live in L.A. county. Don't come here without a plan and a marketable trade. Many people come here with high hopes and nothing to fall back on, and they easily fall prey to predators. The city is nice, super crowded, kind of superficial, but, great weather year round. Expect to live in an apartment forever, because real estate is severely over-priced. Great cultural diversity. Lots to do.
