I get a thumbs down each time I answer this question, but here goes again. LOL.

The next generation will be descended from the people of today who have children. So, who is having children? Women with careers and educations have fewer children than those who don't. If this trend continues, you can expect the women of the future to be less interested in careers -- and that is the next evolutionary step for humankind.

If you think about it, evolution doesn't step so much as creep. And we are creeping now.

I think that as we keep more and more variety of humans alive and able to breed through medicine, we will get more and more variety- smaller dwarfs, bigger giants and so on.

Chances are that what's happening as we speak is more along the lines of our immune and metabolic systems though. We are probably getting better at resisting what we have in our environment that we put there. We might be getting better at filtering out pollutants.
But whatever is going on, it's going to be largely invisible to us for a long long time.

I think human evolution has stopped, or soon will.

Natural selection requires that somehow an advantage will be given to some certain sect of people. Realistically in our world there is no thing that stops people from all having their babies. Anyone can go have a baby so evolution is stalled.

To eliminate war , greed and torture. To be a super race which has prosperity all around. To explore the universe (theres so much to it and we havent even gone beyong few planets).

To boldly go where no man has gone before ;)

^^^^To the top poster:^^^^
You're absolutely right, Frank. We can't just go around thinking everything came about by random chance now, can we? That's why we have the theory of evolution. To explain why every living organism is 'un-intelligently' (if I may put it that way) designed by the blind hand of natural selection.

I have both read and know of extremely bright people who have fewer teeth than "normal." I draw no conclusions - it's just an observation.

To realize that this universe, with all its complexity, with life and DNA, required more than mere random chance.

We'll either turn back into apes, or become an entirely new species. Maybe birds. Yeah, that's it. Birds.
