because science is something informative to be taught.
religion is fairy tale fiction.
most kids who have to deal with cultism have parents at home who brainwash them with it.

I don't know about Australia, but in the US, it's illegal to teach religion in schools. A few disgruntled atheists pushed the issue, claimed that their rights were violated. Or something like that.
Now, the kids sing "Jingle Bell Rock" instead of "Silent Night" at their 'holiday" not "Christmas" concert. How sad. The kids of today are missing out on some wonderful things.

Probably for the same reason mathmatics is. Science is nothing more than a never-ending search for truth. ... However our kids are not taught in school about Hippocrates, ethics philosophy things of that sort which is not so absolute which I think is limiting and sad for our culture!
Incidentially ... Those who reject the idea and teaching of evolution are also more likely than others to give the schools low marks for their handling of religion, for what it is worth.

Theology, not religion, used to be taught side-by-side with science, being called 'the mother of all sciences.' Unfortunately, as a whole, humanity has decided that theology is no longer important, even the majority of Xians.

It is illegal to teach religion in a public school in America.
The constitution says that the Govt can make NO laws governing the practice of religion so our congress interprets this as meaning that they need to make a bunch of laws limiting the practice of religion.
