i have read many times on this forum it called the theory of gravity. isnt it the law of gravity? if you let go of an apple it will fall on the ground. that is gravity acting on the apple. same with the earth around the sun. the earth is spinning around the sun and not floating out in cold space because of gravity. was i wrong? if so please correct me and explain. thanks

I've heard that it's a theory and I've heard that it's a law. I can't tell which one is true.

How does gravity work? That isn't well known at all. Evolution has its mechanism pretty well set. But what causes that apple to fall is actually a pretty big mystery. I could tell you what different guys say about it, but they are still trying to figure it out.

Science never calls anything a law anymore. You always find that any calculation has limits. For instance the Gas Laws break down when you pack the atoms together too tightly. So If you came up with them now, they would have been called a theory.

The calculations on gravity get messed up at high speeds because it gets wrapped up with time and it gets complicated. Gravity also effects time per Einstein and that messes the old calculations up.

There is the theory of gravity which, in its various forms attempts to understand the nature of why matter attracts matter. Newton created an axiomatic assumption called "The Law of Universal Gravitation". This is not a scientific law in the modern sense since it was not a repeated observation, but simply a mathematical device. A modern scientific law is just a collection of measurable observations that hold true under a broad range of conditions. Unlike a theory, no mechanistic explanation is required.

Gravity exists, that's not what is in doubt. What the Theory of Gravity tries to explain is WHAT gravity actually is and how it opperates. Its changed a lot over the years. Newton, Einstein and Quantum Physics all have different ideas about it. String Theory proposes yet another.

A "theory" in scientific terms means an idea that has been proven correctly. Many people try to argue that because the Theory of Evolution is only a "theory," it hasn't been proven. The usual response is that the Theory of Gravity is only a theory as well. Hence the joke, "Intelligent Falling."

What you are dealing with here is a rather deceptive thing that has been done in the past decade or so that no one wants us to know. The dictionary has been rewritten. What used to be a fact is no longer a fact. A fact now is something that the majority of people accept, rather than something that is true. A theory which used to be a unproven hypothis is no longer that, but is now a tried and tested hypothesis and so now a theory is accepted as fact. Evolutionists who used to react to us calling evolution a theory now proclaim it happily because it backs their position. They simply can't understand why we who don't accept evolution reject the new dictionary definitions. So now they can call gravity a theorybecause in the new difinitions that is equivelent to a law which used to be something that is always happens the same under the same circumstances. Science now even has a Law of probability - Now how is that possible?

Einstein and Newton proposed theories as to why the apple falls and the earth spins...The law is the fall, the theory is the description...

It's brought up because of evolution. Organisms evolve is the fact, the how and why is the theory...

No, I've heard that gravity is considered a theory.

Many people support creationism because they misunderstand theory when they hear that "evolution is only a theory," and assume that there are doubts that it occurred. But a theory is a scientific hypothesis supported by lots of evidence.

"All life is made up of cells" is also a scientific theory. Funny how you don't see creationists decrying this one.

The law of gravity describes the actions of falling objects and provides mathematical equations that help predict how a falling body falls.

Gravitational theory attempts to explain WHY gravity works. It deals with concepts such as gravitons.

Gravity is a LAW. This has been tested and proven many times over. Evolution is often called a theory, but is really a model due to the fact that is has not and cannot be tested.

Gravity works so I would call it a Law.
How it works would probably be called Theory's.
