i think you are using the wrong term. if you have sleep apnea you don't just get it "a few times a week" and not get it once you fall asleep. Sleep apnea occurs when you regularly stop breathing for 10 seconds or longer during sleep. It can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the number of times in an hour that your breathing stops (apnea) or becomes very slow (hypopnea). Apnea episodes may occur from 5 to 50 times an hour. My husband has sleep apnea and has had it for years and years. He does not use drugs to "cure" it. He uses a CPAP machine at nighttime so he doesn't stop breathing..it's a mask that goes over his nose and puts air in his throat.
I suggest you find out if sleep apnea is what you really have because from what you are describing, you cannot possibly have it. please describe more about your condition and maybe we can help you find out what you do have.

From you description it sounds like you have insomnia, not sleep apnea. Sleep apnea usually affects you when you are asleep, not when you are awake. It makes you wake up sometimes but also causes you to stop breathing for short periods of time. The c-pap machine forces you to breathe through your nose and forces air into your lungs. I'm not sure why that works, but it seems to for the people I know who have to use them.

You can't self-diagnose sleep apena. You must have a sleep survey done to determine if and how severe it is.
Next step is surgery or a CPAP machine. I have had the surgery done but still must use the machine. I thought I would never get use to it but I did pretty quick. Boy do I feel better in the morning. See your doctor.

if you have sleep apnea,it wont go away
have you been to a sleep clinic for a test?
it causes you to quit breathing while you are asleep
only a sleep machine can help to keep you breathing
sorry but thats why i asked if you have been tested

I don't think you have sleep apnea. At least, that's not what you're describing.
