Girls use the "just friends" line for several reasons. I couldn't begin to list them all, but I could give you a few reasons why I have told a guy I only wanted to be just friends.
- I could be interested in someone else at the time
- I could have certain needs/wants that I don't think you could fulfill
- you may not be my type
- we may have nothing in common
- your motives might be transparent
- I could be entirely focused on something else and you are asking at the wrong time.
There are more, it's hard to come up with them when you're not right in the situation, but as they say, "there are plenty of fish in the sea." And since your asking this question, I think you are probably too young to fixate on anyone who doesn't come and jump right in your arms.

Sometimes a girl simply does not want to commit, or she may not want to ruin a good friendship. It does not necessarily mean that she does not like you as a person, but she may want to figure things out without adding a boyfriend to the equation right now.

Unfortunately most times when people say that its because they arent really physically attracted and theres no chemistry. Of course in SOME cases it can be that they're scared or they have had bad experiences with guys before.

It often means they aren't ready for a "relationship, especially with someone they consider a real friend. Real friends are much harder to come by and much more valuable than relationships and SEX CHANGES EVERYTHING, like it or not.

Because they don't want a relationship right now or they don't want to tell you that they aren't interested, but deeply enjoy the friendship that you or who ever we are talking about.
