personally buying from a private owner who has all the records of maintenance to the car is the best place to buy and then the dealer is next if he offers a 30 day warranty with it and unless you want to buy something as is you can buy at an auction where you have no idea where the car came from or any records on it.

At the car auction, you oftentimes don't get to drive the car, you get to start it, and idle, but you aren't normally allowed to take it for a test drive. In this situation, you don't know for sure if there are transmission issues, rearend problems, all kinds of problems. Cars at auction are usually repo's, trade in's that have high mileage, cars from Canada that can't pass emission testing in the United States. Car dealers of used vehicles, often purchase from auction and wholesale. They also usually know how to get a sale, and the interest rates at the small used car dealership will be high, 30% or more. No matter where you buy your car, you need to have knowledge about cars, or have someone with you that does. Private sales are probably the least stressful, and the prices are often negotiable. Auctions are for mechanics that can fix up cars for resale, or people that don't mind rebuilds, or less than perfect cars. Dealers, you got to know how to deal. Good luck shopping.....................

Both have their pros and cons; the auction you are likely to get a much better price, but after sales service to non-existent because the cars are sold as is, so if you are good with cars and can give them a reasonable once over yourself, also you can't organise a professional check on the car because its a on the day only kind of thing. The car dealership you will pay more but you will have a warranty and after sales service and any reputable dealership will hold the car for a check by an automotive service

i own a shop, and i have bought cars from both, and i don't recommend buying from an auction ,because there's always something that you miss when looking them over, and it usually cost a lot to get them in good shape,at least if you buy from a lot or a dealer you can have them inspected before paying for them but buying from an auction is like gambling sometimes you come out the winner and some times you don't,id stick with a dealer if i was you, good luck hope this helps.

c'mon whats it gonna take to get you in this car right now? cant lose on this deal, im practically paying you to take the car, now c'mon sign on the line!!!!!
in other words, buy from a private party. use good judgement, and you will find the best car this way.
