Yes, a Prophet is a person in direct communication with God. A Prophet listens, follows his commandments, and tells the rest of the world. The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints believes there is a Prophet on the earth today doing just that.

Yes, in the same manner there is a difference between a person who speaks and the microphone that person uses. God tells the prophet to say this or that, and the prophet does.

Let me give you a specific example. In classic Islamic theology, Mohammed [blessed be his name] was in a cave meditating, and an angel picked him up, shook him violently, and demanded, "Recite!" When Mohammed agreed, the angel told him the words God wanted him to recite, but any identification of Mohammed with God would be considered "b'ida" [deviation or heresy].

All Jewish and Christian prophets would agree they are not God, but are giving out God's message.

You can have a god without a prophet, but you can't have a prophet without a god.
Christian Prophets are those that reveal God's word to the masses. God is everything, but prophets are just people who God bestowed knowledge upon.
